Page 2-A Candidacy Announced RALEIGH - An nouncement of his candidacy for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court in the 1978 Democratic primary was made today by Chief Judge Walter E. Brock of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. “Justice Dan K. Moore has stated his intention to retire at the end of his present term on December . Judge Walter E. Brock 31, 1978,” said Judge Brock, “therefore I prospose to become a candidate for the seat Justice Moore will vacate.” Born in Wadesboro on March 21, 1916, Brock is a graduate of Scotland Neck High School, received the B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the J.D. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School. While attending the Law School, he was associate editor of the North Carolina Law Review. Judge Brock was one of the six original members of the North Carolina Court of Appeals, taking his seat on the newly established court July 1, 1967. He has served continuously since that time and in January 1973, was designated Chief Judge of the court. Also in his professional career, he was president of the 20th Judicial District Bar in 1950, councillor of the North Carolina State Bar, Inc. from 1953 - 55, vice president of the North Carolina Bar Association, 1972 - 73, a member of the American Bar Association and the American Judicature Society and was judge of the Anson County Criminal Court from 1952 - 54. Until his resignation this month Judge Brock served as chairman of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission, having assumed that position on January 1, 1973. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, in which he served from 1941 to 1945, he is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. An Episcopalian, he has served as a lay reader in his church since 1952, was a member of the vestry, junior warden and senior warden of Calvary Episcopal Church in Wadesboro during the early and middle 1950’5. He has been active in civic and political affairs, serving as chairman of the Anson County Red Cross in 1947, president of the Wadesboro Civitan Club in 1948, chairman of the Anson County Morehead Scholarship Committee from 1952 to 1967, was a member of the Morehead District VIII Selections Committee from 1968 to 1971 and is a member of the District IV Selection Committee at the present time, having assumed that post in 1972. He was chairman of the Anson County Democratic Executive Committee from 1957 to 1963, a delegate to the State Democratic Con vention from 1949 to 1963, and a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee from 1960 to 1963.
