Leary-Hager Vows Exchanged Miss Vicki Colleen Leary and Mr. Peter John Hager were united in marriage at 2 * i-M- Saturday in St. Paul’s * Episcopal Church. Rev. Raymond Stone heard the double-ring vows. Mr. Hugh Dial of Edenton was organist and Mr. Terry Christian of Greensboro, soloist. Mrs. David 0. Wright was mistress of ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack D. Leary of Edenton. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Hager of Wilmington. Mrs. Hager is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism. The bride, given ,in marriage by her father, wore a candlelight shaded gown made of guiana. The neckline and long sleeves were of lace. Her headpiece was a turban edged in lace and seed pearls to com pliment the dress. She carried a bouquet of long stemmed yellow roses with baby’s breath. Miss Pat Hughes of Asheville was maid of honor. Mr. Paul Hager of Birmingham, Ala., brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. A shower to honor the bride was given by Mrs. Mar vis Hendrix and Mrs. Robin Goodwin on February 10. A dinner party to honor the couple was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vann Small on February 11. Along with the Smalls, hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leary, Mr. and Mrs. Lerle Clark, and Rev. and Mrs. Bill Leary, all relatives of the bride. Dr. and Mrs. Wright entertained at a dinner party in their home on February 17. The parents of the bridegroom hosted a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party and out-of town guests at Mrs. Boswell’s Restaurant. The wedding is planned for May 21. Baptist Topic Is Revealed Dr. Robert E. Gray, Pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, has chosen “What’s Your Mind-Set?” as his sermon topic at the 11 o’clock morning worship on Sunday. Scriptural text will be Romans 8:5-8. Contest Whiners Revealed The Chowan County Conservation Poster Con test, an annual event sponsored by the Chowan Board of Conservation District Supervisors, was held February 24 at Swain Elementary School. The event is the climax of a course on conservation conducted in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades during the month of February. The students study conservation and then prepare individual posters on any sound con servation practice at the end of the course. Winners in the contest were: Fourth Grade: first place - Stephen Bass and second place - Smith Roberson, both students at Chowan Academy; Fifth Grade: first place-Gretchen Hobbs, Chowan Academy and second place - Patty Skittlethorpe, Swain Elementary; Sixth Grade: first place - Allen Clark and second place - Jennifer Ledford, both from Swain Elementary. The posters were judged on how the conservation idea was presented, 50 points; originality, 25 Continued On Page 5 Mrs. Morgan Is Centenarian Mrs. Ruth Morgan celebrated her 100th birth day on February 19 with members of her family visiting her. She is the widow of J.A. Morgan. Mrs. C.W. Perry and Mrs. Harold Bowls, surviving daughters, and Mrs. Hazel Morgan, a daughter-in-law. were among those at tending Among the others were grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many friends. Among the many remembrances was a card from President Jimmy Carter. Mrs. Morgan expressed her gratitude for the thoughtfulness of family and friends over the years.
