A contributor to many private collections in the South, Mrs. Tucker’s favorite medium is watercolor with other emphasis on oils and acrylics. Southern Artist Exhibits Work A March showing of art by watercolorist Bea Quigley Tucker of Mobile, Ala. is being featured at Court Square Antiques, 209 East King Street, reported Mrs. Nancy J. Campbell, owner. Mrs. Tucker, she stated, is one of the better known artists in the Gulf area. Her paintings are now receiving widespread recognition in other parts of the country. Mrs. Tucker received her academic art training at Abbot Art School, Washington, D.C., and the Chouinard Art Institure, Los Angeles. Recently Mrs. Tucker has been doing lithography and other graphics. She has sold extensively to private collections throughout the South. She is a member of the Mobile Art Association, Water Color and Graphic Art Society of Mobile. The Mississippi Art Colony, the Alabama Art League, the Louisiana Water Color Society and the Alabama Water Color Society. Mrs. Tucker has had many one man shows and has been accepted in competition in many regional and national art exhibitions throughout the United States. COA Publicizing Programs College of The Albemarle will return to Southgate Mall in Elizabeth City this week from Thursday through Saturday to publicly display the varied educational opportunities offered by the community college. Don Boyette, chairman of the three-day event, said the displays will provide area residents a chance to better comprehend the broad range of programs available at the college. He added that it will also give interested persons an on-the-spot chance to discuss any programs offered by COA oi programs they would like to see added to the already large curricula. The comprehensive exhibit which will be set up in the mall’s main con course, will also visually display information about student organizations and Sdtiilities’ dh' the two cam puses. Faculty, staff and students will be present each day to answer questions concerning college transfer, technical, vocational and continuing education programs which make up COA’s curricula. Cosmetology students will feature live demonstrations of hair styling each after noon during the three days. Children in grades 2,3, and 4 were in vited to make posters on dental health; students in grades 5 and 6 wrote essays on “Snacks for Dental Health.” First place prizes were awarded in each participating classroom. The following students at D.F. Walker School were Ist prize winners in their respective classroom: Stephanie Holley, Mrs. Everett; Dwayne B, Miss Stevens; Flynn, Miss Karen Sawyer, ve; Lori Lewis, wine; Michael liss Taylor; Liza Mrs. Roberson; ker, Mrs. Bond; ite, Mrs, Sawyer, hall, Mobile Unit and Mrs. Mc- Crodden, assistant, were judges of the students’ A series of 28 different adult interest courses being taught at the college will also be featured by the Continuing Education Department. Informational material describing each curriculum program will be available for distribution. The chairman said that coun selors will answer questions relative to any aspect of attending COA, including tuition, financial aid and self-help programs for eligible students. The Mobile Dental Unit is a part of a county and state program designed to treat children in grades K through 6. Although only some children are selected for treatment (those who would not be able to see a private dentist for necessary care) all children benefit from the educational and preventive part of the program. Poster Artists Awarded Three Chowan County students won top honors in the 25th. Annual Albemarle District Conservation Poster Contest held on March 2 in Hertford. Stephen Bass was first (dace winner in the fourth grade and Smith Roberson placed second in the fourth grade. Both are students at Chowan Academy. Jennifer Ledford, a student at Swain Elementary, won first place in the sixth grade. * Other winners in the contest were: Michelle Pendleton of Pasquotank County, first (dace - fifth grade; Barbara Thomas of Pasquotank, second [dace - fifth grade; and Gina Stevenson of Perquimans County, second (dace - sixth grade. The winners received engraved plaques for their achievements. The Albemarle Con servation Posts- Contest, sponsored by the Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation, is a climax to the poster contests held in each county. A luncheon honoring the students was held at the REA Building in Hertford with G. Samuel Cox, Area Conservationist with the Soil Conservation Service, the main speaker for the occasion. Others attending the event were parents, school officials, conservation district supervisors, and members of the Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation. Judges for the contest were M.E. Knight, Con servation District Super visor from Gates County; Frank Veach, retired Soil Conservation Service employee from Elizabeth City; and S.L. Lowery, retired Extension Chairman from Pasquotank County. First place winners in the District Contest will com pete in the Area Five Conservation Poster Contest to be held in March. The Albemarle District wishes to express their provided toothbrushes twice a year. Students from junior and senior high schools are treated only as emergency patients. In some instances, Medicaid and Health Department referrals are accepted in the Mobile Dental Unit. While in Chowan County 84 students from D.F. Walker, three from Chowan High School, 15 from Erfiest A. Swain, 21 from John A.
