Bracewell, President of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation announced today the dates September 28-30 for the 33rd Annual Convention and Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet, to be held at the Hilton Inn on Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, N.C. One im portant event during the three day convention will be the McClamroch Lecture given by Rufus Edmisten, Attorney General for North Carolina which will highlight the Luncheon at noon on September 29th. The Honorable James B. Hunt, Jr., Governor of North Carolina, will attend and be the main speaker at the Awards Dinner on Friday • night, September 29, and will present this year’s Annual Governor’s Con servation Awards to the winners. Awards this year go to the following: Con servationist of the Year, Dr. Carroll L. Mann 111 of Garner; Junior Con servationist of the Year, Bob Jordan of Tyner, N.C.; Wildlife Conservation, R. Wayne Bailey of Milton, N.C.; Communication Conservation, Garvin Hughes of Hickory, N.C.; Conservation Education, Sidney Baynes of Raleigh, N.C.; Forest Conservation, Kenneth Harrison of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Soil Con servation, William V. Griffin of New Bern, N.C.; Water Conservation, Professor David J. Howells of Raleigh, N.C.; Sportsman of the Year, Harry B. Wilfong of Newton, N.C.; and Wildlife Enforcement Of ficer of the Year, Michael C. Criscoe of Monroe, N.C. Other Conservation award winners are: Organization of the Year, McLeansville Wildlife Club, McLeansville, N.C.; Conservation of Natural Resources, Norton F. Tennille, Washington, D.C.; Special Conservation Education, Wake County Wildlife Auxiliary of Raleigh; and Special Award-Wildlife Con servation, Louis Midgette, Sr. of Manteo, N.C.; and a Special Service Award, Kliis Simon of Camp Bryan Farms, N.C. This year’s tickets for the McClamroch Lecture and Luncheon and for the Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet must be purchased before 5:00 P.M. on Wed nesday, September 27; this will require advance registration for those wishing to attend. Registration forms may be obtained from local clubs or from the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, 2209 Century Drive, Suite 302, BB&T Building at Crabtree, or P.O. Box 10626, Raleigh, N.C. 27605. The Convention will open at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 28. A 2:00 P.M. round table discussion will be held on the revision of the 1935 Wildlife Laws and related problems and followed by a public hearing at 4:00 P.M. conducted by the Conservation Law Study Committee of the North Carolina Legislature. This is a public hearing and sty>uld attract sportsmen and others interested in im proving wildlife regulations and management affairs in North Carolina. Numerous displays of outdoor equipment, Illustrated by authorities from the State and National Heritage Programs and statements from representatives of State Conservation Organizations as well as other interesting programs for everyone including special events for women attending the con vention, will fill out the day’s event. Several Federation business meetings will also be held, the first to elect officers for the 1978-79 Year and to conduct annual business. On Saturday morning, talks on wildlife management, wildlife law revisions and other per tinent wildlife conservation . .subjects will be given by Pete Farrar, National Wildlife Federation, Bob Basel, N.C.
