Page 2-C Social Security Report By LeeWaUio Field Representative People who plan on get ting a job during the Christinas shopping season but who do not have a Social Security number should act quickly to get it. Most employers require job applicants to show their Social Security card. Not having one may mean difficulty in getting a job. People who need a Social Security number can apply for one at their nearest Social Security office. If the person is 18 or over, he or she must apply in person. A person should allow 6 weeks after applying to receive a number. Everyone, regardless of his or her age, must furnish proof of age, identity, and U.S. citizenship or lawful admission status when applying for a number. A birth certificate or church record of birth or baptism recorded before the person’s sth birthday is preferred evidence of age and place of birth. For evidence of identity, the document should show a 'person’s signature, photograph, or other identifying data. People bom outside the U.S. must present evidence of their U.S. citizenship, such as a U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, •citizen identity card, cer tificate of citizenship, or consular report of birth. People who are not citizens of the U.S. must present their immigration documents. A leaflet, “Applying for a Social Security Number,” lists different documents which can be used as proof of age, identity, and citizenship status. Free copies can be obtained at the Elizabeth City Social .Security office. O’Berry Center Hosts Parade O’Berry Center will host its annual Christmas parade December 8, beginning at 1:15 P.M. The parade is the highlight of the Christmas season for O’Berry’s residents. The parade has grown considerably in the past few years, with the 1977 parade boasting 78 entries. The majority of the entries are from community facilities such as schools, businesses, churches, and civic organizations. As in the past, the one and a half mile parade route will circle the O’Berry campus and then proceed to Chcny Hospital so that their residents can also par tiepate in this special yuletide celebration. Any group interested in having an entry in the parade (float, band, mar ching unit, car, etc.) should contact Frank Farrell at (919) 731-3502. The public is cordially invited to attend the parade as spectators. It is hoped that the par ticipation by community groups will be even better this year, making the 1978 parade a date to remember lor the residents of O’Berry Center. Birth Rev. and Mrs. Charles P.
