Page 2-A Wrestling Team Winning By Jerry LaVote The Aces wrestling team has wrestled six matches and one tournament over the last month. In the matches, the Aces fared well, winning five of six. Their only loss came to last year’s conference cham pions, Plymouth, while they registered conference wins over Williamston, Washington, Ahoskie, and Tar boro. The other win was a non-conference victory over Northeastern of Elizabeth City. Edenton’s scoring during their 46-28 loss was provided by 4 pins and a major decision. Jackson (1:31, 2nd), Rome (1:10, 2nd), Bonner (1:25, Ist) and W. Cofield ((36,3rd) registered pins as Raleigh Basnight won a 12-3 decision. The Aces started then present five match winning streak back in mid- December with a 56-12 win over Williamston. Forfeits to Bembry, Stepney, Perry and Skittlethorpe, pins by Carter ( :31, Ist), T. Lassiter ( :59, Ist) and W. Cofield (:50.15t) anddecision wins by I. Basnight (7-2), Rome (13-6), R. Basnight (17-1) and Bonner (7-4) provided Edenton’s scoring. The next match, against Washington, was a cliff hanger and very much in doubt until the 195 pound weight class, where Mad dred won a 10-5 decision to ice the victory. Other Edenton scoring in the 36-33 thriller was provided by one forfeit, pins by Carter ( :55, Ist), Jackson (1:46, 3rd), Rome (1:56, Ist), and T. Lassiter ( :34, 3rd), and one other decision win by Basnight 18-1. The next three matches were won by wide margins, the first of these being a 49- 23 drubbing of Nor theastern. With 2 forfeits, 2 pins (by Rome ( :50, 3rd) and W. Cofield ( :40, Ist) and 4 decisions, one of them major, (Jackson, 11-1; R. The 70 points the Aces collected in their 70-9 win came on 4 forfeits, pins by Carter (1:50, 2nd), Jackson ( :11, Ist) Rome (:57,2nd),R.Basnight (1:57, 2nd) and Bonner ( :55, Ist), and superior decisions by Holley (19-3) and Lassiter (14-2). The Aces also fared very well in the Tournament last Saturday in Plymouth. The eight team tournment featured Edenton, Plymouth, Manteo, Cape Hatteras, Greenville Rose, Northern Nash, North Pitt, and New Bern. Edenton came in second behind Plymouth with four first place finishers in 13 weight classes. Os the ten Edenton wrestlers who entered, nine placed. They are as follows: Wrestler Class Place T. Cofield 165 4th Mike Maddred 195 3rd The Aces will travel to Manteo tomorrow night. Services Held For Mrs. Jordan Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Mildred Lewis Jordan, Route 2, Edenton. The services were held at 2 o’clock in Williford-Barham Funeral Chapel. Rev. C.L. (Dick) Brewer officiated. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jordan, 71, died January 3 in Chowan Hospital following an illness of one year. She was the daughter of the late Leon L. and Annie Lilley Lewis and the widow of Henry J. Jordan. Surviving are two sons: Lin and Edward Jordan, j both of Edenton; and three grandchildren.
