Holmes Band members selec ted during competitive auditions at Greenville recently to perform in the top Symphony group of the All-State Band, Eastern Division were left to right: Lynn Dale, Steve Lane, Bonner Litchfield, and Alan Parker. Selection to this 100 member Symphony group, or the 100 member Concert group, entitles these students to attend a band clinic February 9 and 10 and to perform in concert with the Symphony under the direction of Alfred Reed a renouned American composer of band music from Miami Beach, Fla. In their respective instrumental areas, Parker and Lane earned second chair position. As a result, they will have the opportunity to try out for the North Carolina All State Honors Band later in the year. Over four hundred students tried out for the 200 positions at the auditions Saturday in Greenville. Child Find Day Gov. James B. Hunt has proclaimed the first Monday of each month as Child Find Day throughout the current school year. Edenton- Chowan Schools’ Ex ceptional Children Division is participating in this campaign. Child Find is a statewide effort to locate all han dicapped and gifted children, ages birth through 21, who are not currently receiving appropriate educational services. Its purpose is to insure that these children receive educational services when they reach the age of five years and also to inform parents of screening, in tervention, and other ser vices available to special needs children from birth. The Child Find census is one of the requirements of major state and federal laws dealing with ex ceptional children. The census will be coordinated by the Department of Public instruction’s Division for Exceptional Children. According to Ted Drain, Director of the division, ‘This effort will involve all public school systems and other state-operated educational programs in North Carolina.
