Page 2-A ASCS Office News •. Feed Grain Sign-up Changed The sign-up period for the 1979 Feed Grain Program will begin on February IS and continue until April 30, 1979. During the sign-up period fanners will have an opportunity to Hie intentions to participate in the program. The program requires that farmers set aside acreage equal to 10 percent of their 1979 planted acreage to be eligible for loans, disaster and deficiency payments. An additional 10 percent may be set* aside for payment at the rate of SI.OO a bushel times the yield established for ' the farm and times additional diverted acreage. The Feed Grain Program is one way to help keep the supply of grain in line with demand, therefore keeping the price of grain up at a profitable price for the farmer. For farms participating in the 1979 set aside program the operators and producers must comply with NCA bases for the farm. These gre normal crop acreage INCA) bases which have been established for each farm based on the 1977 Reported planted acreages pf corn, grain sorghum, barley, wheat, oats, rye, Cotton, soybeans and sweet potatoes for the farm. This base minus the set aside jtcreage signed up for is the permitted NCA crop base for the farm. Farm Peanut allotment jind poundage quota notices ijjor 1979 were mailed to weanut farm operators on ijFebruary 15th. the farm allotments are the same as 3or last year. The farm DOT Meeting To Be Held t RALEIGH A public •bearing to provide area -residents with an op portunity to participate in •planning short-and long -range projects for aviation ;pnd public transportation (mass transit) will be held in Ahoskie. Scheduled for 7:30 P.M. on, - March 2, the meeting for residents of Bertie, Cam den, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, Nor thampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties will be held in the council chambers on West Main Street. The Ahoskie public hearing is one of 28 scheduled throughout the state to assist the N.C. Department of Tran sportation (DOT) in up dating the Transporation Improvement Program (TIP). Included in the TIP are aviation, public transpor tation and highway projects. The TIP is the DOT’S basic planning document which balances anticipated revenues against estimated future projected costs. The March hearing will deal only with aviation and -public transportation |9 projects. For farms where all the 1978 quota was not marketed the operators will be notified at a later date of the carryover of' quota poundage from 1978 to 1979. Peanut farm operators may file 1979 poundage transfer agreements with ASC offices. The transfer agreements may; be for transfer by lease, sale, or owner. Forms in ASC offices are provided for recording the information, signing ahd filing the agreements. These need to be completed in the ASC office prior to any signatures showing the transferring farm data and receiving farm data with the pounds to be transferred. These peanut poundage transfer agreements can be. filed thru June 14th for the first filing period. Designation of FC Tobacco Warehouse Sign-up period ’ for flue-- cured tobacco growers to designate warehouses for 1978 will begin on March 5 and run through' April 6. Growers are reminded that if they intend to designate prior to the opening of local markets, they must do so during the sign Hip period. Measurement Service Requests Requests for measurement before planting are being accepted now. As soon as you decide what you want measured,' an early request may assure you of getting your request serviced before you are ready to plant.
