Thursday, February 14, 1960 News From The Peanut Market Southeastern Section Trading of peanuts grown in the Southeast was fairly slow. Prices were slightly higher for jumbo and firm for other grades. Reaction to the 1980 peanut crop support levels was varied, o with many mills holding -jback offerings for a while. The snow storm in the c .'Virginia-North Carolina area limited trading somewhat since several ''dealers work out of that area. There was some in terest in new crop trading • but no sales were reported. '" There were few sales. Nurses Asst. - Class Is - Scheduled 'l Chowan Hospital in Eden ton will be the location for a Nurses’ Assistant course which will begin on Monday, March 3. The 11- week course has been scheduled as a cooperative -effort between the hospital "And College of The Albemarle. Claire Mills, R.N., staff development coordinator, said the objectives of the training are to prepare qualified men and women to provide basic nursing care to selective patients, to make and report ob servations, and to conduct aspects of unit management. Elaine Gibson, R.N., will be the instructor for the class. Classes will meet six hours daily, Monday through Friday, from 8 A.M. until 3 P.M. in the hospital’s auditorium. Mrs. Mills said the -classroom instruction will ! focus on basic nursing /.procedures that are related "to the needs of patients. Prices paid per pound for shelled runner type peanuts sold on an FOB shipping point basis for prompt Mrs. Scott To Campaign Former North Carolina first lady Jessie Rae Scott will officially hit the cam paign trail in her husband’s behalf Tuesday in Williamston, where she will represent former Gov. Bob Scott at a Democratic fund raiser. Scott, who served as governor of North Carolina from 1989-1973, will oppose incumbent Gov. Jim Hunt in the Democratic Primary on May 6. Mrs. Scott will attend the Martin County spring Democratic Gala to be held in the Williamston High School cafeteria. Attorney General Rufus Edmisten will be the keynote speaker at the 7 P.M. barbecue dinner. The appearance by Mrs. Scott is her first official campaign function since Scott announced in November that he would run for governor. “My husband is dping a great service to the people of North Carolina, and to the Democratic Party, by challenging the present administration, and I want to be a part of the challenge,” Mrs. Scott said. “I plan to become as ac tively involved in his campaign as my schedule at home will allow.” Mrs. Scott said she will travel across the state dur ing the next three months to represent Scott at political functions he is unable to attend. The earlier an nouncement of the 1980 crop support prices caused many in the industry to adopt a wait-and-see” attitude. Supplies were light and several mills had only a few grades to offer. Sales were primarily limited to prompt shipment. There were few sales. Resignation Is Announced An Atlantic, N.C., businessman has announced that he will resign from the state Advisory Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and the Seafood Industry to actively support Bob Scott in his campaign for governor. Holmes High School Band members who, because of their talent, ambition and dedication, became members of the Eastern All State Band. Steve Lane, Graham Cox, Bonner Litchfield, Lynn Dale, David Hibbard and Alan Parker appeared in All State Band per formances at East Carolina University’s Wright Auditorium on February 9 following auditions in competition with 410 students from 41 eastern district schools for the honors. Only 150 finalists, plus alternates, will be selected from the field of applicants for the School’s first eleventh grade class of the 1980-81 school year. State and federal agencies provide financial support for the school, making tuition, room and board free to all North Carolina students accepted. Steve Lane, alto clarinet, had the distinction of winning 2nd chair in the Symphonic Band. Graham Cox and Bonner Litchfield also placed in this coveted division.
