We enjoy reading The Chowan Herald as it provides us a means to get to know you a little better. 1980 was a busy year for the “Super Tug”. From February through July we Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Decline RALEIGH The nation’s average rate of insured unemployment fell below the critical 4.5 per cent level for the 13 weeks ending January 3, signalling the end of extended unem ployment payments in North Carolina and much of the rest of the nation, ac cording to the Employment Security Commission (ESC). Warren Wittmer, director of ESC’s Unemployment Insurance Division, said extended jobless benefits i tuld be payable through the week ending January 24. Extended benefits have been payable since the week ending July 26. During the 13 weeks en ding January 3, the nation’s average rate of insured unemployment registered 4.49 per cent. Since returning from the deployment we have been operating out of our homeport, Little Creek, Virginia (Virginia Beach). During the second half of 1980 we provided services for the U.S. Second Fleet and conucted Salvage Operations from as far north as Newport, Rhode Island to as far south as the Island of Saint Croix in the Caribbean Sea. Presently we are gearing up for our 1981 Mediterranean deployment. EDENTON will sail from Little Creek during the first week of February and return home early in July. We would be most honored if any of our friends from Edenton who are vacationing or visiting in the Virginia Beach area this summer would stop by the Naval Amphibious Base at Little Creek and visit YOUR ship.
