The Ensemble is com posed of the following students: Betsy Baker of Rev. Cree To Speak Rev. Rodger A. Cree, an Assemblies of God appointed missionary to the American Indians, will be guest speaker Sunday at 7 P. M. at the First Assembly of God Church, Hwy. 17 Business South (Queen St. Ext.) Rev. Norm Gloeckler, pastor, has announced. In the last 28 years, Mr. Cree has been engaged in various aspects of the In dian ministry. For several "’•V gj3| Rev. Rodger A. Cree years he was involved in missionary work among the Cree Indians in the Hudson’s Bay area of Canada. Four years of ministry followed among the Mohawks near Montreal. Mr. Cree is himself a member of the Mohawk nation near that area. Mr. Cree spent 12 years in the Southwest on the Papago Reservation in southern Arizona. He was in strumental in the building of a sanctuary at Sells. In addition, young people from that congregation responded to train for the Gospel ministry. In these efforts the indigenous principles have been applied that have resulted in a strong local leadership and financial independence. Mr. Cree assumed the presidency of the Eastern Indian Bible Institute near Fayetteville in June, 1977. Mr. Cree states, “We must train Indian youth in order that they might reach and disciple their own people.” Mr. Cree is a graduate of Institute Bliblique de Be’re’e, a French training school for ministers, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Services Are Held For Mrs. Buhls Mrs. Jean Chappell Buhls, 50, Route 1, Belvidere, died suddenly February 19 in Ivor, Va. A native of Perquimans County she was the daughter of Herbert and Maude Dail Chappell Route 2, Hertford. She was a secretary for the Prescription Fertilizer Company in Ivor and at tended the Chappell Hill Baptist Church. Besides her parents she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie C. Jones of Tyner; three sons; Bruce Copeland of Wake Forest; Kendal Buhls and Wendal Buhls, both of the home; a sister, Mrs. E. D. Byrum, Route 2, Hertford; and a brother, Llloyd Chappell of Hampton, Va.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 P. M. in the Chappell Hill Baptist Church by Revs. Billy Old, Mrs. Eula Harrell and George Cooke. Pallbearers were G. W. (Buddy) White, Jimmie Harris, Donald Wade Little, Lane Gwaltney, Jody Dail, Ronnie Byrum and Lloyd Chappell, Jr. Burial followed in Westlawn Memorial Park in Elizabeth City with Swindell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. N.Y.; Greg Seamster of Roxboro; Cheryl Sutton of Ginton; and Jamison Sutton of LaGrange. The group is directed by Sarah Foster, chairman of the Fine Arts Department and professor of music at Louisburg College. Louisburg College, ™ j yjgkf % 1 TROOPER AT SCHOOL Recently State Patrolman Mike McArthur visited Immanuel Christian School. McArthur gave a short talk on safety and law enforcement. Then the students were taken out and shown the trooper’s car and all the devices he uses on the job. Club Holds Husbands Supper Center Hill Extension Homemakers Club met on February 17 for their annual Husband’s Supper. Guest were Mrs. Betsy Kelly of Edentpn-Chowan Schools, Center Hill families and special guest were husbands of the club members. Mrs. Helen Hollowell, president, welcomed the group, Mrs. J. C. Boyce gave the invocation and every one served them selves to the bountiful and delicious variety of foods. After the dinner, Mrs. Kelly spoke to the group and showed slides on “Special Olympics for Special People.” Special Olympics will be held April 4 at 9:30 o’clock. Volunteers are needed and there are op portunities for everyone to participate in this celebration of love to touch children who have been denied in so many ways, to show them they can gain confidence and show progress. Mrs. C. B. White was also present. She showed slides from the extension office “A Bridge to “the People.” A blend of N. C. State and A & T universities help people to put helpful info to work. Mrs. Hollowell read a poem of love for the husbands present and every one joined in singing “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”. Bus Driver Training Set The first of three training classes for adult school bus drivers will be held at Chowan Junior High from 7- 10P.M., March 3. Additional sessions are scheduled from 7 -10 P.M., March 10 and 17. Anyone interested in obtaining a school bus driver operator’s license must attend these training classes in addition to receiving practical road work training. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, applicants must be approved by the Edenton- Chowan Board of Education before being considered eligible as adult drivers. Two Receive UNC Degrees James Sanford Pressley, Country Club Drive, Edenton; and Heide Trask Wood, also of Edenton, were among 1980 December graduates at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
