Roses Profit Sharing
Nets $1,946,201
Manager BeulalT White of
the local Rose’s Stores, Inc.
announced that more than
5,800 employees of Rose’s in
seven southern states
shared in the 1980 company
contribution to the Em
ployees’ Profit Sharing
Trust. The contribution,
$1,946,201.00 was the 37th
consecutive annual
payment made by Rose’s
since the Profit Sharing
Plan was started in 1944.
Mrs. White handed
statements of their personal
account to sevel local
participants, showing how
each shared in the com
pany’s 1980 profits and what
each had accumulated. She
pointed out that a typical
participant in the (dan Xa
saleslady in one of the
stores) who had shared in
every one of the 37 company
contributions now has a
balance in her account equal
to more than five times her
1960 earnings.
Mrs. White advised that
Central Carolina Bank &
Trust Company, Trustee of
the Rose’s Profit Sharing
Trust, reports that the Fund
now totals over $31,450,000
and holds $8,418,000 of U. S.

$1,350,000 of other assets.
Chowan Farmers
Market
The new endeavor seems
to be doing pretty good.
There is a need for more
people selling at the market.
If you are planning to bring
right much of a vegetable
(for example, sweet corn)
, call the Edenton Chamber of
Commerce. They will put
this information on the
radio. The telephone
number for the Edenton
Chamber of Commerce is

Crops
Continue spraying for
cantaloupe and watermelon
leaf diseases. If it gets real
dry you can make the in
tervals between spraying
longer.
Crops are looking good so
far, but they can change
quick during hot weather.
Thrips are hitting peanuts
hard in some fields.
Malathion or Sevin are the
recommended materials for
control.
Landplaster
We see some farmers are
applying landplaster and it
is about time. Apply at least
600 lbs. of dry, 1200 lbs.,of
granular or 1800 lbs. of wet
landplaster. Actually the
granular and wet land
plaster should have already
been put out. I believe most

Manganese Deficiency
Once a yellow spot
develops in a field of
soybeans or peanuts, it
seems to come back year
after year. The cure is to
apply some form of
Manganese. Manganese
Sulfate dissolved in water is
good treatment (7.5 lbs. per
acre) There is also a liquid
material available.
While we are talking
about fertility we have been
asked if 8-0-24 can be used as
a side dresser for sweet
potatoes. This is a good side
dresser material for sweet
potatoes. Ask for 8-0-24 that
has Muriate of Potash in
stead of Sulfate of Potash.
The muriate form is cheaper.
Leaf Spot
It is about time to start
leaf spot control on peanuts.
If it becomes very dry you
will not need to spray as
often. In a test during a dry
year two sprayings gave as
good a yield as spraying five
times.
Cotton
Most cotton fields are
looking good except in some
dry areas of the county. If
you haven’t side-dressed
your cotton, it is time.
