Reflections On Tragedy From Bandon Notebook By Maggie B. HI, NEIGHBORS! When tragedy strikes, mere words seem so inadequate to ex press one’s true feelings to the victim’s loved ones. Last week I learned of a family near by who had lost a child two years ago; approx, three weeks ago, they lost another - both were run over by a car! On June 27th, “I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” God said, “for you to love the while it lives, and mourn for when it’s dead. It may be three or four years or twenty-two or three, but will you, till I call it back, take care of it for Me? It’ll bring its charms to gladden you, and should its stay be brief, you’ll have its lovely memories as solace for your grief. I cannot promise it will stay, since all from earth return, but there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. I’ve looked this wide world over in my search for teachers true, and from the throngs that crowd !ife’s lanes, I have selected you. Now, will you give it all your love, nor think the labor vain, nor hate Me when I come to call to take it back again?” The parents fancied they heard themselves say, “Dear Lord; Thy will be done. For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run, we’ll shelter it with tenderness, we’ll love it while we may - and for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay. But should the angels call for it much sooner than we’ve planned, we’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.” ‘Twas a fine group of God’schildrenassembled for Sunday School at Bandon Chapel on this beautiful Lord’s Day! Supt. tyleta Mason joyfully welcomed each one present. She an nounced that the BCWG will hold its regular meeting Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. in Fellowship Hall. All members are urged to mark July 21st on their calendars NOW - on this date the 10th Anniversary of the BCWG will be celebrated by having dinner at Tuck’s in Elizabeth City. To the parents of these children, I would like to share this “conversation with God”, printed long ago in “Grit” magazine; Prayer List: Miracles DO happen when God’s people pray together! Please add our friends to your prayer list. I’ll share a miracle with you. Last Tuesday, we went to Norfolk General Hospital to see my brother, Dan Darden, who had a heart attack last Sunday, following open heart surgery a short time ago. My husband asked at the Desk if he was in his room or in Cardiac Care. We were told that he had been discharged from the hospital!! We then went to Dan’s home. I rang the bell. Dan opened the door, looking “fit as a fiddle”! After a big hug, “come on in”, he said, “I’ve just made a fresh pot of coffee - the best I’ve had since I left home”. We went in - Dan poured the coffee - said he was feeling fine. Soon his wife, Sally, came in. “Did Dan tell you?”, she asked. “What?”, I questioned. She began to talk. I listened - couldn’t say a word, cold shivers ran up & down my spine, my eyes watered. Here’s the story. I On Monday Dan was too weak to talk to Sally and asked that she stay home because he wanted to sleep. He slept all day - didn’t wake until 10:30 P.M., then went back to sleep. Linda Mason, Dan’s daughter, and her husband sing at times on the 700 Club. Early on that same Monday morning, Linda called Pat Robertson and asked that he and everyone pray for her daddy’s healing. This they did. About 11:30 A.M. Monday Linda called her mother and told her not to worry, that her daddy nad been healed. Sally was dubious. Tuesday morning Linda called Sally and asked her to turn the TV on to the 700 Club. She did. Pat Robert son told the audience that Linda Mason had asked that everyone pray for her dad’s healing. Pat read Psalm 103, then prayed for Dan’s healing and for others that had requested prayer. When the program ended, Sally cut off the TV. The phone rang. It was Dan asking Sally to come get him! The doctor’s couldn’t believe Dan’s condition but it was so satisfactory t!.. ; y released him from the hospital. Praise the Lord! My thanks are extended to all of you for your prayers. Walter Taylor, brother of Bucky and Medford Taylor, underwent surgery on Tuesday at the Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Pray that it will be suc cessful; Trudy Lapham, wife of Deacon Dave Lapham entered Ports mouth General Hospital Wednesday for surgery and needs your prayers; David Ziemba, son of Joyce Ziemba and band director of Hertford High School was injured in an auto accident. He has been released from the hospital and is recouperating at home but still needs prayer; Margaret Smithson has been suffering with eye trouble and needs prayer; Robin Adcock has been released from the hospital for 3 weeks after which time, another surgical procedure will be per formed.
