In an exicting Superball Tournament, held this weekend at Chowan Golf and Country Club, she putted her team to victory on the first hole of Sudden Death. Three teams had tied for first place after 36 holes and Mrs. Voigt, playing in the foursome of Clark Harris, Kel Elmore, and Henry Powell, rolled in a 15 foot birdie putt on the first hole. The teams of Tommy Bass, Steve Underkofler, J. T. Lane and Gerry Fry; Carroll Forehand, Roy Harrell, Ken Lowe and Ben Riddick could only manage a par on the first hole. Forehand’s team had posted a two day total of 129 in the morning, giving the afternoon teams an “easy” score to beat. But, the Harris team (11 under on Saturday) and the Bass, Jr., team (8 under Saturday) could not do any better than tie the Forehand team, setting up a dramatic three way playoff. Sixty-eight members and their guests played in this tournament which was climaxed by a barbecue chicken supper Sunday evening. Edenton is sending five teams this year to the tournament which is sponsored by the North Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society. The tournament will be played Saturday, July 11 at the Pine Lakes Country Club in Elizabeth City. According to Bob Kelly and Spec Jones, local coordinators, this is the largest number of teams that Edenton has ever sent to the tournament and they are very grateful to the local business sponsors and the players for their par- Page 7-A ticipation and support of this most worthwhile cause. All proceeds of the tournament will go to the American Cancer Society. The sponsors and players are: Chowan Medical Center will sponsor Jim Swain, Herbert Brickhouse, Steve Underkofler and Carroll Forehand; Spedic Vending sponsoring Larry Hughes, Jerry Sary, Knapp Brabble and Scott Privott; Va. Fork Produce sponsoring Jack Brown, Ernie Knighton, Pete Paul and George Hill; Bank of N.C. sponsoring Clark Harris, Bud Powell, Cecil Fry, Jr., and Haywood Harrell; Twiddy Insurance & Real Estate sponsoring Bob Kelly, Tom Bass, Tommy Bass and Randy Crabtree. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. July 13 -14 -15 at 8 A M., 1
