Our population of older adults will jump by 70 per cent. - We expect 9 out of every 10 new jobs to be non manufacturing jobs. - We expect almost 700,000 acres of prime farmland - an area bigger than Sampson County - to be converted to other uses.” It will be the responsibility of the Commission on the Future to examine projections such as these and to involve the state’s top thinkers in determining realistic choices available for the next two decades. Through a project called North Carolina 2000, the commission will build public awareness of the choices and will involve citizens in identifying what they want for their future. The final product will be a set of recommended actions. The first meeting of the Commission on the Future is scheduled for Thursday, October 22 at the Hilton Inn here. Computer Group Meets Tuesday The Albemarle Area Computer Users Group will meet Tuesday night, October 13, at Soundview Restaurant at 7:30 P.M. Everyone will order from the menu. The program will be on “Home Computers” with a possible demonstration. The October meeting has a large amount of business which needs to be discussed. The By-Laws Committee will be presenting their recommendations before the club for possible amendments to be considered. Members are asked to review their By- Laws before the meeting and list any issues which should be scrutinized by the club. The Nominations Committee will be presenting their list of candidates for the new 1982 officers. There are several active members which have expressed a desire to change the meeting night. This change does not require an amendment to the by-laws since the “place of meeting, time and program shall be determined by the Program Committee”. The head of the Program Committee, Ralph Holder, would like all members cooperation in determining the meeting time. A questionnaire has been sent out which needs to be completed and returned to Ralph Holder before the October meeting. Mr. Holder promises another entertaining and informative program. All members are encouraged to attend and bring a guest.
