HI, NEIGHBORS! Today
was such a gorgeous day -
made one happy just to be
alive! What a blessing it is
to be able to see and hear all
the wonders of nature which
God created for our en
joyment - and - to be able to
walk through the fallen
leaves, down to the edge of
the water and watch the
mighty Chowan, secretly
wondering if the waters
could talk, what wonderous
tales it would tell. On such a
day as this, it is hard to
realize that “ole man
Winter” is just around the
corner! We should start
thinking about ways and
means* to help others who
are not so fortunate as we -
invest ourselves and our
means in a manner that
would bring joy to others.
NOW is the time! Don’t put
if off.
I was going through some
papers and found a bit of
prose by Elizabeth M.
Gerus, entitled “Yesterday,
Today and Tomorrow”.
Share it with me:
“There are only three
days that matter in anyone’s
life. The first of these is
YESTERDAY. Can you look
back on it and feel that you
did your best? Or, did you,
somewhere, miss a chance
to give something beautiful
to the world? You can never
relive it, but you do have a
second chapce with TODAY.
What will you do with it?
Are you ready to meet its
challenge ... to open your
heart to happiness and
share it with others? Or, will
you wait for TOMORROW,
dreaming ard planning for
what you hope will be?
The choice is yours, but
remember - you cannot
change yesterday, and
tomorrow may not be all
that you expect. But today -
today is here and now, and if
you use it well, you will be
rich indeed.”

Music Education U/oxkskop "To Sc k/eld
There’s more to enjoying
a concert than, meets the
eye. Understanding what
the ears is considered most
important, especially for
school students whose ears,
perhaps, are unaccustomed
to the pleasurable sounds of
symphonic music.
To help assure that all 4th
- Bth grade students are
prepared when they attend
on January 28 a free
educational concert by the
North Carolina Symphony,
K
TEACHERS PREPARE SO STUDENTS can better un
derstand and enjoy the North Carolina Symphony’s
educational concert which they will attend on January 28.

Edenton-Chowan Schools is
offering educational
workshops for their
teachers. Mrs. Shelby
Strother, John A. Holmes
High music chairman and
the Chowan County Chapter
of the N. C. Smyphony’s co
chairperson for the student
educational concert, is
conducting the workshop.
During the workshop, the
educational musical
program of the 1981-82 N. C.
Symphony children’s
concert will be introduced
for teachers to share with
students in the classroom.
Ideas and ways in which
teachers might teach the
music through their regular
classroom subject matter
will also be offered.
Language arts, music ap
preciation, art, history,
enrichment and even math
can be made more exciting
for students as the elements
of the upcoming symphony
program are incorporated
in the teaching process.
Knowing in advance what to
listen for and having
background knowledge of
composers, their works and
the mechanics of a sym
phony will enable teachers
to stimulate students’ in
terest and appreciation of
symphonic music.
Successful completion of
the 10-hour staff develop
ment workshop, attended
voluntarily by teachers,
provides those participating
an opportunity to gain one
unit of credit towards
certificate renewal.
The North Carolina
Symphony is being brought
to Edenton on January 28,
by the Chowan County
Chapter of the N. C. Sym
phony, formed this summer
under the auspices of the
Edenton-Chowan Schools
Community Schools Pro
gram. An evening con
cert for the community
will be held in the Ernest A.
