THE CHOWAN HRRAIJI Page 5-B James Kinion Mr. Kinion Is : - Promoted James Kinion has been promoted to the position of Associate Superintendent for Edenton-Chowan Schools. He has been Assistant Superintendent ’ since 1978, at which time Cecil Fry retired. When making the promotion announcement at the School Board’s; November meeting; Supt. John Dunn told Board members that “over the past three years, Jim Kinion has carried out hiS responsibilities as an assistant in an exemplary manner.” “He has exhibited that degree of professional growth,” Dunn continued, “which has been most valuable at the decision making level, above his many routine duties.” As Associate Superin tendent, Kinion will con tinue to oversee the system’s Administrative Services, including areas of transportation, food service, maintenance and federal projects in addition to ex panded responsibility in the decision making process. Kinion, who has worked in the field of education since 1955, came to Edenton in 1963 as a teacher-coach at John A. Holmes High School. He served as D. F. Walker School’s assistant’ principal in 1967 and was elected principal in 1968, a position he held for ten years until becoming Assistant Superintendent. Architecture Program Is Held GREENVILLE - Ap proximately 50 persons from North Carolina and Virginia attended “North Carolina Architecture, 1690- 1940: A Survey,” a program sponsored by the Pitt County Historical Society and the East Carolina University Division of Continuing Education. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. William Ticknor of Tyner. The event featured illustrated lectures by John B. Flowers, 111, founding director of the Stagville Preservation Center. Located near Durham, Stagville is the nation’s first state-owned teaching center for historic preservation; Flowers’ presentation traced the development of North Carolina architecture from its earliest known beginning in the late 17th century to World War 11, with emphasis upon various building styles. Also on the program was Dr. Keats Sparrow of the ECU English faculty, vice president of the Pitt County. Historical Society. Sessions were held at the ECU Regional Development Institute. Centralized School Menus Edenton-Chowan Schools has released the following lunchroom menus for the week November 23-25: Monday Juice ‘ doughnut and milk. Ham- 1 burger-bun, pickle chips; ketchup-mustard, baked beans, apple and milk. Tuesday— Banana halves, assorted cereals, and milk. Roast turkey with giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, whipped potatoes, green peas, pumpkin custard, rolls and milk. Wednesday Juice, bacon, pancake with syrup and milk. Sloppy joes-bun;' tossed salad, french fries - ketchup, cake squares and milk. Thursday Thanksgiving holiday. Friday Thanksgiving holiday.
