The PSR team made last week its first full review of this system to see if students I in all of Edenton-Chowan’s exceptional children’s programs are being ap propriately placed and if appropriate programs are being conducted. Established state and federal guidelines serve as Letter To The Editor Last week I had the un- I pleasant task of calling the I Sheriff’s Department and I asking them to come by and I check out a stray dog that ■ had been hit by a car. Hie i dog was in very grave . condition. Mr. Rice, who is con - nected with the Sheriff’s * Department came out to , investigate the situation. He i called the stray, which did f not look too friendly, but actually was very gentle, and made friends with him. He proceeded to gently lift the dog in the truck because he was so badly hurt, and continued to make friends with him by talking to him and removing several ticks that he had picked up from his journey from who knows where. The dog had to be put to sleep because of his poor condition, but I am sure even to a stray dog it was a comfort to have met a nice friend like Wayne Rice. I was very impressed with the gentle way in which the animal was treated. We usually think of someone having to perform this task as running them down with a net, this was not the case. Thanks to the nice people in the Sheriff’s Department who care. Dot Habit f JIMMY "CATFISH” T HUNTER ROAST Sponsored By Hertford Lions Club For N. C. Smith's Store Phone 2214031 ■ Edenton, N.C. . THE CHOWAN HERALD the yardstick upon which a PSR team bases its con clusions. In their oral exit report to Mrs. Mary Horton, Director of Exceptional Children’s program and School Superintendent John Dunn, the PSR team opinioned that it is “obvious that the principals and teachers take the proper placement of students seriously.” They also praised the excellent job which the system’s school based committees are performing as students are placed and which teachers made in keeping records up to date. Mrs. Horton was commended for the excellent information which is “essential to un derstanding a system’s Family Ring... for mother or grandmother colorful birthstones represent each child's birth month Yellow or White available for immediate delivery Habtsi Jetoelera Downtown Edenton program”, collected in preparation for the team’s review. In all but a few instances, the numerous areas in the program review were found to be in compliance with guidelines. Some areas had been carried beyond the minimum standards which the team was looking for. For the most part, areas not in compliance dealth with documentation and meeting established time lines which admittedly were often in areas beyond a system’s controls. Supt. Dunn viewed the PSR’s full review as a “positive experience”, since the constructive criticism received can only serve to ; better educational procedures for children.
