Peters, Jr., look at Louis Orr’s etching of the Cupola House, one of 21 well known North Carolina buildings in a series by the artist which is on exhibit at College of The Albemarle through the month of December. The etchings have special significance for the Peters family since they were owned originally by Mrs. Peters’ mother, Mrs. J. Faison Thomson of Goldsboro, who presented them to the N. C. The law also requires that all day care plans be registered. Jernigan, Jr., president of the Ahoskie Meat and Provision Company, Inc., was sworn in as vice chairman of the Board of Natural Resources and Community Development. Jernigan was appointed to the position by Gov. Jim Hunt in early November. Gov. The 25-member board consists of 10 members ap pointed by the governor and 15 other elected officials, each from one of the department’s commissions or councils. The department consists of 10 divisions. They are: The Division of Land Resources, Division of Marine Fisheries, Division of Environmental Management, Division of Forest Resources, Division of Economic Opportunity, Division of Community Employment, Division of Community Assistance, Division of Community Housing and The Housing Finance Agency. The department was created in 1977 when the Board of Conservation and Development was re vamped into two groups >■ Die Department of Natural Resources and Community Development and Depart ment of Commerce. According to the secretary’s office the department has never had a vice chairman before and he (Jernigan) will act in the absence of the chairman. Jernigan stated, “I am very pleased the governor has appointed me to the position. I hope my ideas will benefit the state and particularly our area.’’ Jernigan has served 18 years in the N. C. General Assembly and worked with the state commission which organized the department. Thursday. December 10. 1981 He commented that because he helped to organize it, “I feel close to the department. I am very f&miliar with the department.” The first meeting for the board is scheduled December 4 but the board members are on call.
