March Os Dimes Sunday
Birth defects strike more
than 250,000 babies in the
United States each year.
The Edenton Jaycettes and
the March of Dimes
Foundation kick-off their
1982 campaign in Edenton
against birth defects with
door-to-door collections on
January 24.
Some birth defects can be
prevented or corrected by
current medical knowledge.
Most cannot. The March of
Dimes Birth Defects
Foundation funds research,
medical services and
education programs.
Through money raising
projects, the Tidewater
Chapter of the March of
Dimes has continued its
support of the Regional
Perinatal High-Risk Center
in Norfolk. Many infants
born in Chowan County are
transferred to Kings
Daughters Hospital for
more intensive care and a
hope for a normal life which
may not have been possible
a few years ago.
