62, on a 16 foot jumper by Michael Jordan. This gives UNC
coach Dean Smith his first NCAA championship ever.

The Beaver Hill Cemetery
Corporation agreed to turn
the cemetary over to the
town.
Edenton Furniture
Company opened for
business. Jesse Harrell and
J. P. Partin.-, owners, in

new assortment of mer
chandise.
Thomas H. Shepard was
discharged from the Navy.
Young Shepard entered the
service on July 24,1943, and
of the 32 months of service
was overseas for 20 months.
He was awarded one battle
star and was entitled to
wear the Asiatic - Pacific,
Victory and American
ribbons.
The Ed Bond Post
members voted to buy the
W. A. Everett property on S.
Broad Street for the Legions
home.
All property owners,
except two, agreed to pay
for the opening up an alley
back of the business houses
on the last east side of lower
Broad Street.
A new enterprise was
formed in Edenton known as
the Albemarle Construction
Company, members of
which were J. F. Trogden
and Ernest Kehayes.
Four children in the fourth
grade, of which Mrs. W. S.
Summerell was teacher,
made a perfect score in
spelling for the sixth month.
They were Jean Baker,
Lester Forehand, Winifred
Hollowell and Fontaine
Pettus.
Mrs. David Wright and
Mrs. John Theirs moved
into the lead of the Chowan
Hospital Auxiliary bridge
marathon at the conclusion
of the 12th round of play.
Production at the Chowan
Veneer Company, Inc. was
increased by 25 per cent
when a third lathe was
placed into operation.

annual Quiz Bowl to be held
in North Carolina.
