The fifth session of The
Scout Masters training
course was held at the Scout
Cabin for the West
Albemarle District.
John A. Holmes,
secretary of The Edenton
Rotary Club, was elected
governor for the 189th
Rotary district.
Church services were
being planned for the day of
the invasion of Europe.
T. C. Byrum was ap
pointed as the manager for
the Chowan County cam
paign of Gregg Cherry,
candidate for Governor.
Mayor Leroy Haskett
called a meeting of the
County Commissioners and
Town Council to take the
necessary steps in providing
the town with public toilets.

Dance Excercise Classes
Marsha Gordon, director of
the Chowan Academy of Dance,
will be teaching a new session of
Ladies' Aerobic-Jazz dance
classes beginning on Thursday,
May 6th. The classes will be
held on Monday and Thursday
evenings from 7:00 until 8:00 in
: the Arts Council building beside
the Edenton Police Dept, on
Dock Street.
The six-week session will be a
total fee of $20.00. To register

Miss Faye Twiddy,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.
Franklin Twiddy was the
chosen queen to represent
Chowan County in the
Patato Festival.
Edgar Halsey won first
place in the VFW marble
shooting tournament.
Robert Earl Edwards and
Ethel Ann Swets were the
finalists for the Annual State
- wide high school debating
contest.
Jasper L. Wiggins, former
mayor of Edenton,
presented a series of ar
ticles in reference to
prominent Edentonians who
had gone to their reward.
New officers were in
stalled into the Edenton
Woman’s Club. They were:

House. For many years,
since 1758 when it was built
by Frances Corbett agent

Association, Eagles has
been an adjunct professor at
the Campbell University
School of Law and a lecturer
at numerous legal seminars
sponsored by the bar
association and trial
lawyers groups. He has
served as an adjunct faculty
member in Criminal Justice
at Duke University’s In
stitute of Policy Science.
While serving on the
Attorney General’s staff,
from 1967 - 1971, Eagles was
Revisor of Statutes and
Secretary to the North
Carolina General Statutes
Commission. Later he
served as head of the At
torney General’s
Legislative Drafting Service
(1970 - 74) and thereafter
(1974 - 76) lead the Special
Prosecution’s Division
which tried especially
complex criminal cases and
otherwise assisted
proseettors across North
Carolina.
In addition, Eagles has
been an active member and
participant in the work of
the North Carolina Criminal
Code Commission since its
creation in 1969. The
Comlnission, appointed by
North Carolina’s Attorney
General, is a criminal law
reform group which has
prepared revisions bf
criminal procedure law
adopted in 1975 and in 1977
by the North Carolina
General Assembly.
Shakespearan
Comedy
Cynthia Phillips of
Edenton recently par
ticipated in the
Shakespearean comedy,
“All’s Well That Ends
Well,” at Mary Baldwin
College in Staunton, Va.
In addition to acting in the
play, Cynthia was in charge
of makeup. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.
A. Phillips, and is a junior at
Mary Baldwin.
Mary Baldwin College is a
private liberal arts college
for women and is located in
the Shenandoah Valley of
Virginia.
