Holmes, secretary of The Edenton Rotary Club, was elected governor for the 189th Rotary district. Church services were being planned for the day of the invasion of Europe. T. C. Byrum was ap pointed as the manager for the Chowan County cam paign of Gregg Cherry, candidate for Governor. Mayor Leroy Haskett called a meeting of the County Commissioners and Town Council to take the necessary steps in providing the town with public toilets. Bar, church and civic activities, he managed Senator Robert Morgan’s 1980 re - election campaign and was active in former House Speaker Carl Stewart’s campaign for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor. A member of the American Bar Association, N.C. State Bar, the N.C. Bar Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Wake County Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and the Wake County Bar Association, Eagles has been an adjunct professor at the Campbell University School of Law and a lecturer at numerous legal seminars sponsored by the bar association and trial lawyers groups. Later he served as head of the At torney General’s Legislative Drafting Service (1970 - 74) and thereafter (1974 - 76) lead the Special Prosecution’s Division which tried especially complex criminal cases and otherwise assisted proseettors across North Carolina. In addition, Eagles has been an active member and participant in the work of the North Carolina Criminal Code Commission since its creation in 1969. The Comlnission, appointed by North Carolina’s Attorney General, is a criminal law reform group which has prepared revisions bf criminal procedure law adopted in 1975 and in 1977 by the North Carolina General Assembly. Shakespearan Comedy Cynthia Phillips of Edenton recently par ticipated in the Shakespearean comedy, “All’s Well That Ends Well,” at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. In addition to acting in the play, Cynthia was in charge of makeup. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Phillips, and is a junior at Mary Baldwin.
