For over three years I have been asking the Recorder to allow me to review the advertising in come ledger of the Biblical Recorder. Hie Recorder has rejected all my requests without any explanation. The Biblical Recorder constantly reminds us Baptists that we are open and have nothing to hide. Why. has the Recorder developed a history in recent years of rejecting not only my inquiries but inquiries from other Bap tists and the news media as well. Hopefully my concerns and my questions will finally be addressed by our Baptist leadership and not be swept under the denominational rug. Harrill Jones Gastonia, N.C. General Assembly to mandate an evaluation for the disease of alcoholism in individuals guilty of driving under the influence (DUI). It also asked the state to consider raising the legal age of 18 for drinking wine and beer, noting that the “teenage population is a unique group at high risk for alcoholism and alcohol - related traffic injuries.” The resolution, presented at the Medical Society’s 128th Annual Meeting in Pinehurst, also urges the General Assembly and the state judiciary to “take whatever measures are necessary to remove the drunken driver from our highways.” In other action the Medical Society: Urged immediate passage of a state law requiring compulsory rabies immunization of domestic cats. Voted to “make every effort to communicate the optional nature of the (N.C. Right to Natural Death) Act to hospital administrators, nursing groups, and other health professionals.” Supported repeal of the law providing for professional standard review organizations (PSRO). Asked the society to inform high risk population groups, such as nursing home patients, about the N.C. Right to a Natural Death Act and to routinely provide these individuals the opportunity to take advantage of this course of action. Approved a report on Medicaid from the Page 5-B Executive Council which stressed the importance of private physician par ticipation in the Medicaid program, made recom mendations for a statewide Medicaid reimbursement schedule, and listed possible cost containment ap proaches for Medicaid. Recommended that the Board of Medical Examiners issue tem porary, limiting permits for graduated Physician Assistants (PAs) who await the taking of the first available exam and permit applicants failing the first exam to work under restrictions of a student PA.
