CF Telethon Results Good The Edenton Jaycees chaired a “satellite telephone station” for the Cystic Fibrosis Telethon on August 14. The Jaycees were located at the Farm Bureau office on highway 32 and were busy receiving calls from individuals as well as calling businesses in the area for contributions over the nineteen hours of the telethon. The total called in contribution to the Cystic Fibro6is Foundation from Edenton and the surroun ding area was $534. The Jaycettes also par ticipated in the Telethon by Sponcering a bucket brigade to collect money at local shopping centers. The total contribution from their bucket brigade was $67.60. This contribution when added to the called in contributions brings the total collected from the Edenton area $601.60. ? The Cystic Fibrosis Telethon, which aired over the eastern part of North Carolina received a grand total of $90,538 in con tributions. These funds will be used for research, education and care for those persons afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supports two centers in North Carolina, one at Duke and the other at N.C. Memorial Hospital. The disease itself is a genetic disease which' oc curs once in every 1600 births. In North Carolina alone it has been estimated that there are a quarter of a million residents with Cystic Fibrosis. DECA Students Income Noted John A. Holmes High School DECA students here reported earnings of $66,918 in the 1981-82 year, ac cording to coordinator Sandra Fairdoth. The earnings have con tributed to the local economy as the students logged 21,072 hours working in local businesses in Edenton. Mrs. Faircloth explained that the youth work a minimum of 15 hours weekly in an approved business.
