Tooth-Colored Fillings
If you need a filling in
one of your front teeth,
you’ll want it to be
natural-colored, like your
other teeth. In some
cultures, people like to
have gold or silver teeth
showing when they flash
a smile. But most
Americans prefer the
natural look.
Among the materials
used today are acrylic,
silicate, and composite
resin. The silicate filling
has the advantage of
containing fluoride,
which is slowly released
to help prevent decay.
The composite resin,
however, is stronger than
acrylic or silicate.
Choice of filling often
depends on the size of the
cavity and the location of
the tooth. Any area where

material to protect it for
as long as possible.
Fortunately, the teeth
“up front” in your mouth
are not as subject to wear
as your back teeth are.
Materials that can still
protect against wear but
have the advantage of
being natural-colored like
your other teeth can often
be used there. Discuss
this with your dentist the
next time you need tooth

As in the past, the 1982
Mid - Atlantic Wildfowl
Festival, housed in the
Virginia Beach Pavilion
yearly, proved to be a
tremendous success.
Festival viewers are always
pleased at the overall
beauty and expanse of the
show. The Wildfowl Festival
is produced by The Back
Bay Wildfowl Guild, Inc., a
non - profit, tax exempt
organization dedicated to
furthering the interest of the
folk art of bird carving,
painting, photography, and
artifacts of wildfowl.
This year’s show drew
countless viewers and
collectors and featured
Virginia’s 1982 duck calling
contest for adults and youth,
decoy carving, and painting
contests for “working”
birds and “decorative”
birds and art auctions.
Traditionally the decoy
painting contest with
various artists donating
their time and ability to
paint blank decoys furnishes
the Guild with finished
decorative decoys to be
auctioned - all proceeds
going to the Waterfowl
Guild.
“Laney” Layton of
Edenton was among the
exhibiting artists showing
her waterfowl paintings.
This was the third con
secutive year of showing for
Mrs. Layton whose work
consists primarily of
original watercolors. Mrs.
Layton donated work for
auction as well as receiving
an honorable mention for
her Black duck decoy en
tered in the decoy painting
contest.
The upcoming Festival
will be held on March 4,5,
and 6, 1983 rather than the
usual late summer date.
Laney Layton will be
showing in the N.C. Wildlife
Show in Raleigh in
December as well as in
Columbia, S.C., in
February.
