Page 10-A Bandon Chapel Notebook - Birthdays Are Special And Memorable Days by Maggie B. HI, NEIGHBORS! Bir thdays are SO special—it’s the one day in the year that’s specially “YOURS”! My hub by celebrated his “special day” Sunday and indeed, it was a day well worth remembering! All our boys, their wives and children came to help “granddaddy” celebrate. We had just returned from church when they began to arrive—within 15 minutes, all were present and ready to “snack”. Naturally, the boys had to roam around outside, inspect the bulkhead, gazebo pier and surroundings, while the ladies caught up on what had hap pened since we were last together and the younger ones played games. About 2:30 P.M., we left Ar rowhead for the “big event”—dinner at Mrs. Boswell’s Restaurant! We had the Blue Room all to “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children ; to earn the apprecia tion of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.” -O- sunshine of Christian love Gray clouds covered the shone brightly at Bandon sky on this Lord’s Day but the Chapel as Asst. Supt. Pictures were taken of the whole family, then each family group. After everyone had ordered their choice from the Menu, Grand daddy said the Blessing. It was a touching moment when he expressed his gratitude for the fine family we have and his appreciation for being able to have them all gather for his Birthday. Each of the boys responded and natural ly, I had to get my Two Cents worth in. Thirteen of us in all - and - everyone, including the youngest, only seven agreed that the food was delicious and the service excellent. Many thanks to ladies at Boswell’s for making this event so pleasant. When we returned home, we enjoyed Birthday Cake and Ice Cream, plus more “togetherness”. We agreed that these words of Ralph Waldo Emerson was an apt description of “granddaddy”: Faye Nelson welcomed everyone to God’s House for Sunday School. Before releas ing the young folk to their respective classes, she gave us these common sense rules for making life easier: l)If you open it, close it; 2)lf you turn it on, turn it off; 3)lf you unlock it, lock it up; 4)lf you break it, admit it; s)lf you can’t fix it, call in someone who can; 6)lf you borrow it, return it; 7)lf you value it, take care of it; 8)If you make a mess, clean it up; 9)lf you move it, put it back; 10)If it belongs to someone else and you want to use it, get permis sion; ll)If you don’t know how to operate it, leave it alone; 12)If it’s none of your business, don’t ask questions; 13)If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; and 14)If it will brighten someone’s day—SAY IT! The topic for our adults, taught by B. Kent Rowley, was “God is Israel’s True King”, Judges 8:22,23;9:6-15,55-57. Bible truth brought out was God’s people can desire dynamic leadership so badly that they settle for bad leadership. -O- Prayer List:When we pray, we pray that God’s Will be done for only He knows what is best for us. Buntling and Trudy Lapham as they placed their contribu tions in our Birthday Bank. -O- At our Worship Service, Bandon’s Shepherd, Rev. Robert S. Harrell, brought a timely and memorable message based on Titus 3:1-8, entitled “Christian Hope”. Resume: The first time I heard him speak was many years ago. Well over 2,000 young people were gathered at camp to hear him speak. GRADY NUTT was a gifted speaker. He could make you laugh and in the next moment, make you think about your life in a very serious way. He was one of the very few who could suc cessfully interweave religion and humor. Rev. Nutt was an ordained Baptist minister; he pastored several churches; was a member of TV’s Hee haw Show but spent most of his life speaking before groups of young folk all over the country; in addition, he wrote several books to help our youth solve the problems facing them today. He was truly a man of God. Last Tuesday (23rd) he was killed in a plane crash. I shed a tear when I read this. I shed another tear when I saw a starving child on TV and thought about our overflowing barns. Then, there was a discus sion taking place about possi ble placement of the MX Mis sle in Wyo. Children were in terviewed on TV to find their reaction. One by one these children voiced a fear that before they could reach adulthood the whole world would be destroyed. I shed another tear. It has been so from the beginn ing and I believe it will con tinue. At every turn we are tested. It may be that the full purpose of our being here is to see how we handle these crises.
