Bonding Discolored Teeth
If you have a badly stained
or discolored tooth that is
detracting from your ap
pearance, ask your dentist
about the bonding technique.
In this technique, the tooth
will be polished and etched
with buffered phosphoric
acid. Then the dentist will add
a plastic, tooth-colored
material called composite
resin to the etched area. This
is less expensive than some
other techniques, such as
porcelin jacket restorations,
which can be more esthetical
ly pleasing. If cost makes the
difference, however, bonding
may serve your purposes
well, rt.u
Bonding if often recom
mended for younger patients
whose teeth are not yet fully
matured because the tooth
structure does not have to be
reduced. The pulp of the tooth
is still large and might be in
jured if the tooth is fully form
ed, a porcelin jacket. Later,
after the tooth is fully formed,
a porcelin jacket may be'
recommended for strength as
well as apearance, or the bon
ding technique can be
repeated to restroe the tooth
to its natural color.

When Spots Are A Problem
If you see spots in your
field of vision occasional
ly, only a through eye ex
amination can determine
whether they are
harmless or indicate a
serious ^vision problem.
Spots pr floaters, as they
are Sometimes called, are
usually described as
clouded or semiopaque
specks or particles within
the eye. To some people
they appear as dust-like
particles, cobwebs, or
thread-like strands, or
showers of brillant
crystals. They tend to
move as the eye moves
and can be very distrub
ing when they drift into
the field of vision.
They may be particles
of protein or other natural
materials left floating in
the fluid of the eye when
the eye was formed
before birth. Sometimes
the spots or floaters are
more noticeable when
nearsightedness develops
or becomes more severe.
Whatever may be caus
ing the spots in your eyes,
have this condition check
ed by your doctor to find
out if a change in glasses
or contact lenses or some
other treatment is
needed.
