Coach Jack Bunch Bunch Chosen Teacher Of The Year Coach Jack Bunch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bunch of Edenton, has been chosen 1984-85 Teacher of the Year at Bonds Wilson/North Charleston High, South Carolina. Bunch, a native of Edenton, has taught for twenty years in schools located in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. He teaches social studies and world history. A 1963 graduate of the Univer sity of North Carolina, Bunch earned his master’s degree in 1971. He began coaching in 1965 and has coached football, track, J.V. basketball and Varsity basketball. Bunch is married to the former Cindy Bragg of Gray, Georgia. Some ancient peoples be lieved that looking at a yel low bird would cure jaun dice—if the bird returned the stare. Women-Owned Business Forum A first-of-its-kind forum far women-owned businesses will be held at Duke University in Durham on May 23. Represen tatives of more than 100 firms that are potential suppliers of goods and services needed by Duke and the State of North Carolina have been invited to the half-day forum, which is open to any interested women business owners. The forum is being jointly spon sored by Duke Purchasing and the Office of Women in Economic Development, N.C. Department of Administration. “The state, through the Office of Women in Economic Develop ment is happy to be a partner with Duke University in this forum for women-owned businesses,” said Grace Rohrer, secretary of the Department of Administration. “This is just one way we can in form the small business owners of the opportunities available to them.” Joseph Alston, associate direc tor of Duke’s Material Support Department, said the forum will allow potential vendors to meet the purchasing staffs from Duke and the state. Vendors will have an opportunity to learn more about purchasing, accounting and methods of obtaining contracts. “Both Duke and the state have active programs that seek out potential supply firms operated by minorities and women,” Alston said. A similar forum was held at Duke last fall for minority-owned firms. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Searle Center of the Seeley G. A native of Pasquotank County he was the son of Annie Lou Lane Chappel of Route 5, Hertford and Clarence C. Chappell, Jr. of Mount Pleasant and the husband of Bonnie Hoggard Chappell of Cape Colony. He was employed by Parker Copeland Hog Farm and was a member of Piney Woods Friends Meeting. Besides his parents and wife, survivors include two daughters, Miss Jessica Chappell and Miss Monica Chappell, both of Cape Colony; a sister, Miss LuAnn Chappell of Route 5, Hertford; a brother, Clarence C. Chappell, III of Belvidere and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Winston E. Lane, Sr. of Route 5, Hertford. Thomas Wood Thomas Jarvis Wood, 902 West Queen Street, Edenton, died Fri day, May 3 in Chowan Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Wood, a native of Pas quotank County, had retired as a supervisory agent with Norfolk Southern Railway; he worked for the railroad for 50 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War I; a member of St. John’s- Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, Va.; Past Commander of an American Legion Post; Past Master of the Masonic Lodges in Edenton and Virginia, The Scottish Rite and Sundan Temple of New Bern; and a former member of the Edenton Lions Club. He was active with several amateur radio stations. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Albert W. Furgiuele, Culpep per, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Roland West, and Mrs. Herman, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; two gran daughters, Jane F.
