According to a recent survey, appearance is the single greatest reason people switch from glasses to contacts. There are no unflatter ing frames to obscure and change the appearance of your face, no thick lenses to enlarge or dimish your eyes. Contact lenses have been called “invisible glasses” because they allow the natural beauty of your eyes, eyelids and eyelashes to be seen by everyone, without any visible obstruction. Looking better (and seeing bet ter) also seems to bring a psychological lift to people. Many contact lens wearers say they feel less inhibited and more confident, that they don't hide behind their They' that they perform better socially and professionally because con tacts give them a new look and a “new lease on life.” Putting on contacts can make more than just a dramatic change in one’s appearance, they can af fect one’s whole personality — hopefully for the better. Popping Noises If you sometimes near a popp ing noise when you move your Jaw joints and have noticed a dull aching in your face or head, this may be caused by myofascial pain dysfunction. This is a com mon affliction of women under 40 years of age. It is characterized by pain in the temporomandibular or jaw joint and may also lead to headaches, toothaches, and pain ful limitation of the mouth opening. The condition should be ex amined promptly by your dentist so it can be corrected before the pain becomes more intense and affects other areas of your head. In extreme cases it may cause blurring of vision and hearing loss. Pain in the jaw joints or tem poromandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) can have many causes, such as improperly aligned teeth or the habit of teeth grinding or clenching. The goal of your den tist's treatment will be to correct any dental problems that are causing TMJ, returning the jaw to its normal function and eliminating spontaneous muscle spasms in the jaw joint area.
