TV Proqram Provides Teachinq Tool "Reading Rainbow.” "Ready Or Not." “Voyage of tbe Mimi.” “GiVe and Take.” These pro grams and some 90 others are part of School Television spon sored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Each day in schools across North Carolina, teachers supple ment the educational diet of their students with this instructional television. Approximately 50 per cent of teachers statewide find School Television as instrumental as workbooks or computers. The Edenton-Chowan school system uses these aids to educa tion on a regular basis, according to Director of Instruction Maxine Britt. Mrs. Britt said that the pro grams come from two sources. NCDPI has a regional center in Williamston that maintains a cassette library of programs where duplicate cassettes can be made for local schools. Also available are broadcasts on the public television system which are taped locally. Schedules are received from NCDPI at the beginning of the school year to aid teachers in selection of course supplements. Using this valuable resource is the focus of “A Different Kind of Television,” airing Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m., over the 10 channels of The University of North Carolina Center for Public Television.
