Safety Tips Are Offered With the end of October here, the sights and sounds of Hallo ween are more evident. Pumpkins are carved and kids are preparing their costumes for the trick or : treat festivities. Even though there is a lot of fun associated with all hallows eve, it is also a time to exercise caution. Accidents, leading to mild to severe head injuries and other mishaps, can occur if certain rules are ignored. To ensure that' you have a Happy Halloween, here is a list of safety tips to follow: 1. Wear a bright costume that can be seen by drivers and fellow trick or treaters. If you are wear ing a dark costume, paste some shiny, reflective tape to your clothes. Revival Slated Chappell Hill Baptist Church, Tyner, will host a Harvest Revival •; October 21 through October 25. -Evening services will be con : ducted Wednesday through Satur day nights, beginning at 7:30 each : evening. The 11 a.m. Sunday service will be followed by a covered dish din ; ner and a Singspiration beginning ;lat 2 p.m. •: Guest evangelist will be Dr. :-;Finley Sizemore of Clearwater, !South Carolina. 2. Don't walk on the street, stick to the sidewalk. When you do have to cross the street, make sure you look in all directions. 3. Don't wear a mask or a large hat that might obscure your vision. 4. Try to go trick or treating while it is still light out. 5. If you are out at night, make sure you bring along a flashlight. Not only will your pathway be lit, but you can avoid falling down or tripping over something that could lead to a bump on the head. 6. Always trick or treat with someone else. Preferably with an adult or with a group of friends. 7. Try to stay in your neighbor hood or in a familiar local area. 8. Inspect all trick or treat goodies before eating them, and never eat anything that is not pro perly wrapped or appears to have been tampered with. It’s unfortunate, but true, ac cidents occur when you least ex pect them. Over 340,000 children in the U.S. suffer head injuries each year. “Children are most susceptible to head injuries because they are more active and less coordinated than adults,” says Dr. Carol Luzzi, director of New Medico’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Services at Visitors Hospital in Buchanan, Michigan. To ensure a fun and safe Hallo ween, follow the safety tips list. ★ RE-ELECT ★ MARINA CRUMMEY CouncilwomanatLarge November 3,1987 • Qualified • Dedicated •Involved •Experienced Your Vow and Support Will Bo Approciattd! Would the people accept it and respond to it? Could we make them believe that there were peo ple out there who were in need of our kind of help? On faith, we went ahead, and we haven’t been disappointed. The response from all of the com munities has been overwhelming. Not only have we helped hundreds of people, but the people who have volunteered to join us are the best. When we say volunteer, we don’t mean just those who serve at the Pantry. There are also those who organize and par ticipate in fund and food drives. The students at the various schools and the women’s clubs are just two examples in a long list. On Sunday, October 25 from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m., another group will be helping. The youth groups from St. Paul’s Episcopal, United Methodist and Edenton Presbyterian Churches will be out trick-or-treating for the Edenton Chowan Food Pantry. They will be asking for your donations of food or money. What they receive will be passed on to someone who otherwise might not have anything. When you get the support we have gotten from young and old alike, and when the program you undertake is blessed from the start, how can you miss? From all of us at the Pantry, “Thank you and God bless you.” Read the Herald....
