'Memoirs of a Geisha' by Golden is upcoming book club selection New Books: 'A God in Ruins' - Enemies try to keep a man out of the White House; also Foote's memoirs The upcoming book club se lection is Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. The novel is a moving story of a young girl whose widowed and impover ished father sold her into ser vice where very few of the ap prentices actually attained the status of geisha. Golden re searched for ten years to cap ture the geisha experience. New dates for the book club meetings will be the third Tues days in July (13) and August (17) at 3:30 p.m. in the after noon. The book has been re leased in paperback and the library can obtain a few addi tional copies from other librar ies in our region. Tom Clancy has teamed up with General Chuck Horner (ret.) to write Every Man A Ti ger. General Horner com manded the U:S. and allied air assets during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Horner (former Viet Nam fighter pilot) is cred ited with conducting success ful military campaigns bal anced with compassion for the troops. Leon Uris has written a pow erful story of a man who would be President in 2008. A deco rated World War II veteran, a husband and father, the aspir ant appears to be a flawless candidate. But his enemies, including the presidential in cumbent, are determined to end'his run for the office in A God in Ruins. Parrish of Edenton has been named to the President’s List for the 1999 spring semester at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. The President’s List contains the names of. students who, during their second or a later semester at Campbell, are eli gible for the Dean’s List and present on the school’s 4.0 scale a cumulative grade-point av erage of 3.5 on all college work attempted. Campbell is a Baptist-affili ated university.
