Library staff part of literacy outreach Wednesday mornings our staff hits the road. Ann Jones and Naomi White visit local day care centers. Night Fall Fast: Understand ing Suicide by Kay Redfield Jamison. The author is a Pro fessor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins and she has struggled with manic-depression herself. In addition to revealing the multitude of situations that can lead to suicide attempts, she sug gests new drug treatments that are being used successfully. William Least Heat-Moon adds another descriptive travel volume to his credits, this time plying America’s waters in his boat (and the book’s title), the River-Horse. He and his com panion leave the Atlantic coast from New York harbor in the hopes of following the routes of the great explorers. Brabble outlines his role BY BOB WILL What is being done in Chowan County schools to cope with behavioral problems and the erosion of discipline in the nation’s public education system was the subject of a re cent program at an Edenton Chowan Kiwanis Club meet ing. The speaker was Chowan County Deputy Sheriff Tim Brabble. Brabble, who was in troduced by member Jim Carr, serves as School Resource Of ficer at Chowan Middle School. He has served in that capacity , since May 1999, and the assign ment now comprises the ma jor part of his work day. Along with two other county officers, Brabble’s mission is that of preventing violence in, Chowan County’s schools.
