Evan’s Florist Chowan jobless rate showing slight hike Parker Chesson, chairman of the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina, has announced thattheunemploymentrates(notsea sonally adjusted) for November rose in 51 counties, fell in 32, and were unchanged in 17. Chowan County’s jobless rate rose slightly, from 2.5% inOctoberto3.0% for November. Unemployment rates posted by other area counties for November were: • Bertie County - 5.9% • Camden County -1.9% • Currituck County - 2.7% • Dare County - 4.9% • Gates Gounty - 3.1 % • Pasquotank County - 3.9% • Perquimans County - 2.7% • Washington County - 5.8 % Tyrrell County, at 11.0percent, had the State’s highest unemployment rate. Orange County had the state’s lowest unemploymentrateinNovem ber at 1.0 percent. “Unadjusted unemployment rates show employment and unemploy ment conditions at the time the data was collected,” Chesson said. “Gen erally, they are not used in determin ing the significance of economic trends.” * We appreciate having the opportunity to he of ser vice to you and look forward to serving you in the new year. Chowan Hospital University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina Lions aid flood relief During Hurricane Floyd, members of the Edenton Lions Club shipped a truckload of food to Tarboro, NC. In a gesture of seasonal goodwill, they have now reached out to help our neighbors in Windsor, NC. A substantial load of canned hams, 138 to be exact, was delivered last week to the Windsor Lions Club for distribution to the flood victims. This effort was alsp funded by a grant from District 31 -J of Lions International. Participating in the effort were (l-r) Ron Bass, Edenton driver; President Blair Currie (greeted by Windsor Lions President Norman Brett), and Ralph Outlaw, treasurer of the Edenton Lions Club. Volleyball free play to be offered here Holiday Schedule The Edenton-Chowan Recreation Department will be closed along with other Town offices on Dec. 31 through Jan. 2 in observance of the New Year holiday. Volleyball Free Play The Rec. Dept, will offer Volley ball Free Play at D. F. Walker School Gym in Edenton on Thursday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 6. Cost is $1 per person each night. 1 I Recreation REPORT New Exercise Class Schedule The Recreation Department will begin a new exercise class schedule in January which includes kickboxing, step, step/interval, and r step and tone. Cost is $3 each visit or $20 a month. Classes held at the Recreation Center include Kickboxing at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Friday morn ings and Step at 8:30 a.m. on Wednes day mornings. Classes held at Swain include: Step at 5:15 p.m. Mondays, Wednes days, and Thursdays; Step at 9 a.m. Tuesdays; Step/Interval at 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. Thursdays; ■;!
