The daughter of the late Walter L. arid Mrs. Penny Stallings Russell, she was a home maker and a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter. A daughter of the late Walter and Mittie Spruill, she was a re tired textile worker with the Edenton Cotton Mill. She is survived by her husband, David Lawrence Smith; three sons, Lawrence “Mint” Smith, David Earl Smith, and Walter Lee Smith, all of Edenton; four daughters, Maribelle Smith Belangia and Joyce Smith White of Edenton, Louise Smith Baker of WiMiamston, NC and Ann Smith Hughes of Merry Hill', NC; a brother, Evan Spruill of Edenton; four sisters, Stella White of' Edenton, Eva Baker of Kinston, NC, Helen Adams of Chesapeake, VA, and Belle Bray of Surry, VA; 13 grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. Evans Funeral Home in Edenton served the Smith family. DORIS JEAN WEEKS Jean Leary Weeks, 76, died Thurs day, Dec. 30, at Wilora Lake Health Care Center in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Weeks was born in Edenton on June 5,1923, and was the daugh ter of the late Lillian Webb Leary and Joseph Clarence Leary, Sr. She was a graduate of Edenton High School and attended Meredith Col lege-in Raleigh, NC, whereshestud ied music and piano. She was a member of the Greens boro Jr. Women’s Club, the Greens boro Symphony Auxiliary, the Wesley Long Hospital Auxiliary, her church circle, The Hobby Club, Gin Club, and various bridge clubs. She also volunteered for UNICEF. Mrs. Weeks was a member of the Fir$t Baptist Church in'Greens boro for 45 years. She was also a member of the Starmount Forest Country Club. * Mrs. Weeks will be^remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Lon Weeks, Sr.; four children, Richard Lon Weeks, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Perrysburg, OH, Jean Weeks Can non and her husband, Dave, of Charlotte, Cynthia Weeks Shields of Wilmington, NC and John Webb Weeks and his wife, Wendy, of Greensboro; grandchildren; and great great-children; a sister, Lillian Leary Balzer of Malvern, PA; and a brother, Joseph Clarence Leary, Jr. of Edenton. .
