Leary receives special recognition Lion cited for his generosity, concern work on behalf of club and county West Leary was honored re cently by the Edenton Lions Club for his many of years of service by being named presi dent emeritus of the club. Leary was a founding mem ber of the club, which was be» gun in 1937. A former president, he has also held a number of prestigious positions in the dis trict as well. “He has been unable to atend meetings in" recent times, but is a steadfast supporter of all Lions-related causes. and,main tains a keen interest in all Li ons activities,” said Blair Currie, who currently serves as president of the Edenton Li ons Club. “In earlier years, West Leary was honored by Lions Interna tional as a Melvin Jones Fel low, and also as a Jack Stickley Fellow, awards of distinction that made all the members of the Edenton Lions Club proud,” Currie added. Currie added that in addition to his devotion and service to the Lions Club, Leary is also admired.and respected for his record -of personal service to others in his church and the community at large. “West was a deacon at Edenton Baptist Church for over 40 years, and he is well known locally as a Good Sa maritan,” said Currie. “West will be 97 in March, but he still likes to visit people on occa sion practicing1* his deeds of kindness, and his wit and charm endear him to all he meets. “Understandably, the Eden ton Lions are very proud of this esteemed member, and there is a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that a lifetime of dedi cation to Lipnism has finally been recognized in such a man ner,” Currie said. The D.F. Walker Elementary School students sang Christmas carols and gave each patient a card they had made, as well as a spoonful or two of "hugs and kisses." Two students in the class have grandparents at the nursing Rome. The class was accompanied at the piano by Mr. Kirby Johnson of Edenton Baptist Church.
