Barnes announced Jan. 4 that he has filed for reelection as Distict Court Judge for the First Judicial District which consists of Dare, Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans', Chowan and Gates counties. Barnes, 40, was appointed to the bench in June 1995 by Gov. Jim Hunt, at which time Hunt stated: ‘ Edgar’s experience in the court room as a prosecutor, defense at torney — and as a citizen — give him a unique perpective on the power of the courts, I believe that will help him serve the people well.” Judge Barnes subsequently won election to a four year term in 1996.
