RED CLAY RAMBLERS
TO PERFORM CONCERTS
WASHINGTON, NC—The Tony
Award-winning Red Clay Ram
blers, the internationally ac
claimed North Carolina string
band, will help the Partnership for
the Sounds kick off its member
ship campaign this summer with a
pair of concerts on the Albemarle
Pamlico peninsula.
On Friday, June 30, the Ram
blers will play an 8 p.m. concert at
the Washington Civic Center, and
on Saturday, July 1, they will ap
pear at 7:30 p.m. at the Madge Van
Horne Auditorium in Columbia,
NC.
Now in their 28th year, the Red
Clay Ramblers’ repertoire reflects
their roots in old-time mountain
music, as well as country, rock,
Dixieland, bluegrass, gospel, and
the American musical.
In addition to the Ramblers’ long
association with music and the
ater, the Ramblers have been
guests numerous times on Garri
son Keillor’s “A Prairie Home
Companion” (National Public Ra
dio) and have appeared nationally
with Jay Leno on NBC’s Tonight
Show, Harry Smith on CBS This
Morning, and Candice Bergan,
ABC’s AM America. They have
toured extensively in North
America and Europe, and in June
1999, the Irwin-Shiner-Ramblers’
hit, Fool Moon, received a special
Tony Award at the Gershwin The
ater in New York City, after that
show’s third successful run on
Broadway.
INTERNET SEMINAR
IS SET FOR JUNE 16
WINDSOR, NC — The Windsor
Area Chamber of Commerce will
host an Internet seminar, “Secrets
to Cyberworld Success,” at the
Windsor campus of Martin Com
munity College in Windsor.
The seminar, to b eheld June 16
from 9 a.m. until noon, will be held
at no cost to participants.
Presented by Dean Stephens,
CEO of The Seminars Group, based
in Torrance, CA, the seminar lasts
for three years.

Dare County Master Gardeners
Association to the North Carolina
Coastal Federation’s Senior Scien
tist Tracy Skrabal.
Skrabal will be the guest speaker
,at the Master Gardeners monthly
meeting on Monday, June 19, from
3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kill Devils
Hills Library. She is scheduled to
speak about the Coastal Fe
deration’s popular Shorekeeper
Program, alternative shoreline sta
bilization methods and the use of
native vegetation. The program is
open to the public and is free of
charge.

Federation’s field office in

years’ experience and implement
ing coastal conservation projects.
She holds a Masters Degree in
Marine Science and a BS in Geol
ogy from the College of William
and Mary. Since coming to the
Coastal Federation in 1996, Skrabal
has initiated more than 15 model
restoration projects in coastal
North Carolina. Previously, she
held positions with the Virginia
Institute of Marine Sciences and
the Delaware Dept, of Natural Re
sources and Environmental Con
trol.

tion in Indianapolis, IN.
Tate and Melvin have partici
pated in the Summer Reading Pro
gram of the Shepard-Pruden Li
brary in Edenton.
Approximately 100 Children’s
Choices are announced each year.
Selections this year were chosen
from 750 titles by 2,000 children
reading in five geograpic areas of
the United States.
