BUSINESS EXPO 2000 Higher exhibitor presence for Expo 2000 Organizers expect a total of 38 booths at this year’s event Business Expo 2000 will be held Wednesday, October 18 - Thursday, October 19, at the National Guard Armory, Edenton. Richard Bunch, Executive Director, Chamber of Com merce, addressed the partici pation level for this year’s event. “Our expo has more exhibi tors than ever,” said Bunch. The three-year venture conducted by the COA, Chowan-Gates-Perquimans .Job Ready Partnership and the local Chamber of Com merce provides students with an opportunity to explore various careers and to inter act with area businesses. It also provides local businesses with the opportunity to showcase products and services, develop new busi ness opportunities, and enhance visibility in an expanded marketplace. The Wednesday evening “President’s Appreciation Party” provides a networking opportunity for area busi nesses and the entire commu nity, a situation that Bunch believes will result in a large turnout. “We expect a lot of people on Wednesday night,” Bunch said. Five local restaurants will participate in the President’s Appreciation Party which runs 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Samplings from some of the area's finest restaurants will be available, and the Expo itself can be explored. Youth acquire valuable information during event’s Student Day festivities Student Day at the Expo Thursday, October 19 8 a.m.- noon - Student Day begins the JobReady component of the Expo. Throughout the morning, ninth grade stu dents from Chowan, Perqui mans and Gates Counties will be arriving to visit. Students will be divided into groups, each of which will visit three exhibitors with a list of questions to discuss with the businesses. Exhibitors will have a total of nine groups of students visit their booth during Student Day, or three groups from each school. After visiting the busi nesses, students will attend educational seminars entitled: 1. Hiring for the 21st Century, Who? 2. Career Paths, Why? 3. After High School, What? In addition to being open to all visitors, special invitations will be sent from the schools to parents of all High School students and eighth graders for this evening. Parents and their children will be encouraged to attend, visit with the Expo exhibitors and learn about their respec tive businesses.
