Last week, the Aces beat the No. 1 ranked team in the state, but Thornton doesn’t think Friday night’s victory comes as a result of the momentum from the previous week. “I think it was the opposite,” he said, adding that he didn’t like his team’s play in the opening minutes. “We got to do a better job defensively.” Offensively, running backs Rick Jackson New and improved EDENTON— Fate dealt the Aces another winning hand Friday night as they overtook the Northside Panthers in a 39-32 Homecom ing match-up. Northside, early in the game made two long touch downs and had successful two point conver sions, taking a lead that would last until just before halftime. ' The Aces, especially in the second half of the game, came back strong, prevent ing the Pan thers from 1 scoring the long touchdowns. and Kevin Alexander combined for three touch downs, but gained very little yardage. Defensively, the Panthers prevented the Aces from large yardage gains as most of their touchdowns came on runs of less than 20 yards. With a 4-2 overall and a 3 0 Northeast ern-Albemarle Conference record, the Aces travel to Manteo next week to take on the Redskins, who have had a losing season.
