A new addition to the Christmas Open House at the Newbold-White House will be the presentation of the Yule Log. The Yule Log is an early tradition that evolved from several European cultures. In early days, a great tree was cut and dragged, with great merriment, to the main fireplace. According to tradition, if the Yule Log ignited the first time, the year would be free from trouble and remains of the log were kept throughout the year to protect the house from ghosts. During the Open House at the. Newbold-White House, the vJule; Log will be used to ignite the bon fire that will burn during Jhe evening. I. Homemade goodies and other refreshments will be served in the Visitors Center. Local chil dren, dressed in 18th centujry costumes, will serve samplesjof Colonial candies. The focal pojnt of the Visitors Center will be a Christmas tree adorned with Christmas decorations from fourth graders at Hertford Gram mar School.
