Pocosin plans
Sept, fundraiser
COLUMBIA, NC —Tickets are available
for Pocosin Arts' annual "Steamed Blue to
Red-Hot, Lively!" hard crab dinner and art
auction to be held Saturday. Sept. 15.
The action, which takes place on the tented
lawn at the comer of Main and Water Streets
in beautiful downtown Columbia, begins at
4:30 p.m. with guest registration, hors
d'oeuvres and cash bar. Over 100 items do
nated by the region's finest painters, potters,
weavers and fine art craftspeople and galler
ies willbe displayed before a dinner of steamed
hard crabs and delicious side dishes is served
at 6:30 p.m.
The auction benefits Pocosin Arts educa
tion program, which includes a generous
scholarship fund for qualifying students and
plans for an intensive three-day craft retreat
in January 2002.
Tickets,pricedat$25 each, cover costs asso
ciated with the event. Overnight lodging is
available at two of Columbia's delightful bed
and breakfast inns, or at the new Eastern 4-H
Environmental Education and Conference
Center located on the waterfront at nearby
Bulls Bay.

in order to begin funding for the needed
textbooks.
The basket is presently available for
^viewing/raffle ticket purchse at the
Creekside Restaurant and should be avail
able for viewing and ticket purchase in
the lobby at the Chowan County Center,
College of the Albemarle during the sec
ond week of August. Tickets also may be

a diploma from Fayetteville Technical
Community College and be eligible to sit
for the North Carolina Board of Mortuary
Science Funeral Director state exam," Dr.
Morris said. "And for those wanting to
pursue further studies, Fayetteville also
includes an associate degree level of the
Funeral Service Education program
which includes courses in human
anatomy, embalming theory and practice,
embalming chemistry, and restorative
arts.
"For area residents interested in funeral
service operations, our cooperative agree
ment with Fayetteville offers an excellent
and convenient start," Dr. Morris said.
"We already have received several appli
cations and a number of inquiries, and we
strongly encourage individuals to begin
the application process as soon as pos
sible. There are a number of admission
steps that must be completed before fall
registration, which begins Aug. 15."
Dr. Morris said that specific admission
requirements can be obtained by calling
the Student Development Services Depart
ment at RCCC, 862-1200, or the Evening
Director's Office at 862 1235.
