(Andy) Bunch and Detective Dwayne Goodwin with their Advanced Profes sional Law Enforcement Certificate. The certificate is awarded by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Educa tion and Training Stan dards Commission on Sep tember 9, 2002. The award of each Pro fessional Certificate is based on a formula combin ing formal education, law enforcement training, and experience as a full time law enforcement officer. The North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Com mission was established in September 1983. The pur pose of the Sheriff’s Com mission is to upgrade the capabilities, competence, and proficiency of Sheriff’s Office personnel through programs, standards, and procedures involving em ployment, career develop ment, and retention of the Sheriff’s Office personnel. The North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Com mission currently main tains certification files on over 16,000 Deputy Sheriff’s, Detention Offic ers, and Telecommunicator throughout the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the Ad vanced Professional Law Enforcement Certificate is to recognize the level of competence of Sheriff’s Of fice employees, to foster in creased interest in college education and professional law enforcement training, and to attract highly quali fied individuals into a law enforcement career. The Advanced Profes sional Law Enforcement Certificate is the 'highest Professional Certificate awarded to Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs in North Carolina. To qualify for the Ad vance Professional Law En forcement Certificate, Sher iff and Deputy Sheriffs must complete a combina tion of professional train ing and relevant education, as we,ll as, meet minimum experience requirements. Sheriff Spruill stated that there are ten officers with the Sheriff’s Office that have earned the Advanced Law Enforcement Certifi cate. “These Deputies, De tention Officers and Telecommunicators work very hard to increase the knowledge and understand ing of the duties and re sponsibilities that are ex pected of them by the citi zens they serve,” said Sher iff Spruill. I commend ev ery one of them for job well done.” Kadesh to hold Homecoming On Sunday, September 22, Kadesh AME Zion Church will be observing their Homecoming beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Albemarle AME Zion Conference Youth Choir under the direction of Mrs. Felicia Reidwill present a music pro gram.
