two counties on Nov 7 for
the sixth annual Business
Expo, to be held at the old D.
E Walker building on
Oakum Street.

of the Albemarle-Chowan
Perquimans JobReady
Partnership and the
Edenton-Chowan and
Perquimans Chambers of
Commerce, the event is
designed to connect current
and future job seekers with
employers. The Business
Expo is one facet of the
kindergarten through 12th
grade, school to work effort,
according to Edenton
Chowan Schools assistant
superintendent Rob Boyce.
Ninth-grade students are
scheduled to attend morn
ing sessions at the Expo.
Each student will select four
different businesses to
interview, asking such
questions as what skills are
necessary for employment
in those companies, or what

Foundation to
host fundraiser

Do you love to get out and
play golf, or tennis, on a cool
fall day? Your chance will soon
be at hand to do just that - and
to support a good cause at the
same time.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, the
Chowan Regional Health Care
Foundation will host its first
annual Golf and Tennis Clas
sic Charity Fundraiser at the
Chowan Golf and Country
Club in Edenton.
Here's how they will work:
The Golf Classic will feature
r
a four person superball
(captain's choice) format.
Lunch will take place at noon
with a shotgun start set for
12:45 p.m.
Entry fee will be $240 per
team (includes everything
from green fees, carts, lunch,
beverages, mulligans, to raffle
tickets and gift bags).
Prizes will be awarded for
the following: first and second
place teams; longest drive;
closest to pin on all par 3's. All
prizes will be awarded in mer
chandise.
Hole sponsorships are cur
rently available at $50 per hole

in Edenton have planned a
new and exciting event de
signed to complement the
tour Both tour evenings, Fri
day, Dec. 13, and Saturday;
Dec. 14, visitors will be able
to enjoy the taste of steamed
oysters and more during the
first annual Oyster Roast.
The Oyster Roast will take
place each evening from 7-10

capacity Thursday evening as
local law enforcement, visiting
departments, and dignitaries
gathered for the American Le
gion Annual Law Enforcement
Appreciation Banquet. "This
is our opportunity to say to
you, the men and women of
law enforcement, a big thank
you' for your countless hours
of service to our community
hours that are often forgotten,"
said Ron Green, Commander
of Post #40.
Thus far there have been 5
North Carolina law enforce
ment officers killed in the line
of duty. Three officers lost
their lives in Chowan County
in July of this year; one being
Deputy Richard Ashley, Sr.
who was remembered in
prayer led by Chowan County

your dedication to the peace of
this country"

Computer center opens

A grand opening and ribbon
cutting was held at Albemarle
Learning Center Thursday af
ternoon to celebrate the new
community access computer
center. The center houses eight
computers featuring Windows
XP and high speed Internet ac
cess. There is also a computer
technology instructor on hand
to teach courses, for free.
The center is provided by
grants from the Annenberg
Rural Challenge Grant. "There
were some monies left from the
original foundation grant and
a decision was made to open a
PC learning center." says Bob
