Obituaries TOMMIE W. ELLIS HERTFORD, NC — Tommie William Ellis, 90, of 915 Beech Springs Road, Hertford, died Friday morning, Feb. 28, in Brian Care Center. Born in Chowan County, he was the son of the late William and Mary Ann Dail Ellis. He was a farmer and formerly worked for Weyerhaeuser. He was a member of Calvary Pen tecostal Holiness Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include: his wife. Maude Winslow Ellis; nieces, Becky White and Gladys Overton, both of Hertford, NC, Mildred Byrum of Tyner and Alma White of Hobbsville. NC; nephews. Clinton Copeland of Hertford! NC. Ray Copeland of Belvide're, NC. Henry Cope land of Tyner and Ervin Copeland of Hobbsville. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary "Crissie” Copeland; a niece, Mary Alice Lamb, and a nephew, Wilbur R. Copeland. A funeral service was held Sunday. March 2, at 3 p.m. in the Swindell Funeral Home chapel with Ken Spivey offici ating. Burial followeddn Cedar Wood Cemetery. Hi wife, Mary B. Jones, prede ceased him in 1995. A retired Naval Air Statioi machinist, Mr. Jones was ; member of Moose Lodge #39 ii Norfolk, VA for over 30 years He was also a member of th< 60+ Club, NARFE, the Norfoll Bowling Association, and th< Norfolk Senior Center. Fuzzy is survived by a son Charles B. Brinn and his wif< Linda of Edenton; a grand daughter, Lori Brinn Schult: and her husband Frank o Edenton; and four great-grand children, Jonathan, Brandyn Savana, and Caridyce. SIMPSON KNOXVILLE, TN — Julia Anna Forbes Simpson, 89, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Greensboro, NC, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 27, at Saint Mary’s Medical Center. She was the widow of Will iam Francis Simpson. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, William F. “Bill” Simpson Jr. and Mary of Knoxville, TN. March 1 was the night Chowan County 4-H staff, members, and families showed their appreciation to leaders. All of the lead ers and their guests enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the trimming prepared and served by Chowan County 4 H club members. “Many in our county don’t realize how fortunate we are to have these dedi cated adults who provide 4 H'ers with guidance and examples of giving back to your community. 4-H club leaders may sacrifice some time but do so unselfishly to make a positive change in 4 H’Ors, and that makes a positive change in our county,” one 4-H parenl commented. The evening was planned by the 4-H County Council that is comprised of repre sentatives from 4lH clubs throughout the county Along with gifts of pewter 4-H ornaments from the 4-H staff, there were also lapel pins and certificates given to 4-H leaders who’ve reached a particular length of service. “We've got one leader whc has been involved with 4-H for nine years and twc who’ve been involved for nineteen years. Mrs. Tucker was born in Chowan County. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Preston and Estelle VanHorn Cayton. A private duty nurse, she was a member of the First Christian Church, Edenton. Besides her husband, Jacob L. “Joe” Tucker, survivors in clude: a daughter, Lisa Chappell Wood, her husband Jeffery and their daughter Emily of Swansboro, NC; two sons, P.E. “Chip” Chappell Jr., his wife Tricia and their chil dren Bud and Katherine of Chesapeake, VA, and David L.
