Existing Business & Industry Services Program - A Northeast North Carolina Success Story
In partnership with local economic developers and the NC Department of Commerce,
North Carolina's Northeast Partnership is implementing a resultsj'oriented program that will
focus on providing knowledge of and access to the tools needed by today’s businesses to grow.
The mission of the “Existing Business & Industry Services Program” is to identify the needs
and concerns of companies and to foster opportunities for the retention and expansion of
their business.
“The Northeast Partnership has been very successful it* recruiting new business and
industry to the region in the past and we will continue to market the region to outside
companies,” commented Partnership Chairman Jack Runion. “However, in looking at
where the greatest potential for new jobs and investment will come from in the future, it
is clear to us that the retention and expansion of existing business and industry holds
the greatest potential,” Runion added. N

The Partnership began its program in Bertie County by personally contact
ing the major employers in the County. The program has moved to Hertford
and Northampton Counties utilizing the same format. A resource team pays a
personal visit to each major employer in each county to inform them of the pro
gram. This approach will continue until every major employer in the all sixteen
counties in the region has been contacted.
