(Staff photo by Bud Weagly) Members of the Chowan Herald staff have received numer ous awards following the judging in the 2003 North Carolina Press Association Best Ad Contest. Formal presentation of the awards will take place during a banquet hosted by the NCPA. Awards received, and the recipients, were: Second Place, Best Full Color Real Estate Ad (for United Country Real Estate) sold by Mia Noble and designed by Debbie Collins; Second Place, Best Full Color Food Ad (for Family Foods/IGA) sold by Mia Noble and designed by David Taylor; Second Place, Best Spot Color Restaurant/Entertainment Ad (for Mario’s Italian Restaurant) sold by Zenetta Purvis and designed by David Taylor; Third Place, Best Full Color Home Furnishings and Appliances Ad (for Edenton Furniture Company) sold by Mia Noble and designed by Debbie Collins. “I am so very proud to see our talented ad and graphics staffs receive this prestigious recognition among community news papers in this statewide competition,” said Publisher David Crawley. “We invite and encourage interested area businesses to contact us today and let us help them with all their advertis ing needs.” WSmttmiif- iir - i i,I. ’ in, iWH ijilMWir 'r -iMia Mia Noble and David Taylor of the Chowan Herald staff show off the second place award they received for Best. Chowan Night at 'Colony' set MANTEO, NC—Friday and Saturday nights, July 18-19, have been designated as Chowan and Gates County nights at The Lost Colony out door symphonic drama. Resi dents of the two counties will receive a 25 percent discount on adult general admission tickets for performances on these nights. Children get in for half price every Friday and Saturday ' Discount tickets are avail able only through the box of fice at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site near Manteo on Roanoke Island. This season the practice is being revived. The drama is performed nightly, except Sundays,'at Wa terside Theatre which opens at 7:30 pm. Show starts at8:30 pm. Lawrence earns honors Lindsey L. Lawrence, son of Larry and Angela Lawrence of Edenton, has been chosen to receive a number academic honors. First, he has been nomi nated for inclusion in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, 2002/2003 in recognition of his “consistent commitment to excellence”. The nomination allows Lawrence, a rising junior at John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, to qualify for one of 127 scholarships totaling over $200,000. His biography will be published this fall in Who’s Who. “For over 36 years, Who’s Who Among American High School Students has been rec ognized as a reliable herald of future success,” said Parke H.
