Group to review plans for convention center here

Tourism Development Author-,
ity and the Edenton Harbor
Meeting House Committee will
host a team of meeting plan
ners, convention and visitor
bureau executives and host
group directors on Thursday,
October 30 and Friday, October
31. The team will tour Edenton
and Chowan County to evalu
ate Chowan County’s tourism
product as well as the pres
ently available meeting places.
The group will also review ar
chitect renderings of the Mu
nicipal Building. Host direc
tors include Nancy Holder,
former Director of Travel,
Meetings and Conventions for

County to make the most
use of the Municipal Build
ing and steer the County’s
tourism industry in the
right direction. “After all
the work that the Edenton
Harbor Meeting House
Committee has done, hav
ing this wonderful opportu
nity to host a team of ex
perts in the Meetings and
Tourism Industry is the
next step in assisting the
Town Council further on a
final direction of the best
use plan for the Municipal
Building,” states Nicholls.
Plans for the building in
cludes construction for a
new addition to the Munici
pal Building. Layout for the
first'floor includes a small
kitchen, a reception area,
meeting rooms, and a
lounge. Options for the
kitchen are for full seated
service or buffet style ser
vice. Partial second floor
plans call for three new ad
ministrative offices.
The team will assemble at
9:00 a.m. in the Council
Chambers on October 31 to
discuss their findings and
ideas with local elected of
ficials. The public is in

strikes? Although this ques
tion was not directly answered
at UNC-TV’s Black Issues Fo
rum: A Town Hall Meeting in
Edenton, audience members
still received pertinent infor
' mation.
Citizens, and local officials
were all asked to participate in
the shoe’s taping on Friday,
r October 17 at the Council
Chambers with questions and
comments. The show aired the
same night at 9:30 p.m. on PBS.

Final debris
sweep nears

Starting Oet. 28, the Hurricane Isabel debris
contractor will commence a second' and final
sweep of removing hurricane-related debris
from Edenton street right-of-ways.
Work will commence first in West Edenton in
neighborhoods surrounding West Queen Street
Extended, and will then proceed east toward
town.
All remaining debris generated by Hurricane
Isabel may be placed in the street right of way
for pick-up prior to this last sweep.
Household waste and regular seasonal yard ’
waste is the responsibility of the-homeowner.
Once the Hurricane Isabel debris contractor
has passed a certain street after Oct. 28, any
pick-up by the Town of Edenton is subject to
the normal fee.
Also after Oct. 28, residents may continue *
take tree limbs and other hurricane-relatea
debris to the county’s waste disposal conve
nience centers at no charge.

Jet noise
impact is
evaluated

Last Friday, The Albemarle
Community Network (ACN)
released a map of the projected
noise impacts of the Navy’s
proposed outlying landing
field in Washington County,
North Carolina.
The map, created by the
ACN, shows estimated noise
zones that would be created by
Super Hornets on their way to
and from the proposed Wash
ington County OLF site. Based
upon the Navy’s projected
statements on flight paths and
approach/departure routes, as
well as common pilot variation
from those flight paths, the
map was created to show the
public the areas that will most
certainly be affected by jet
noise, despite the Navy’s reas
surances to the contrary. The
map reveals high-noise levels,
in places formerly thought to
be out of jet fly-over noise
range.
Single Event Levels, the
loudest jet fly-over noise, is
shown on the map in decibels
(dB). According to the ACN,
those SELs come directly from
