Today HEALTH TRAINING Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton will offer Congregational Health Promo tion Training from 14 p.m. in the Pem broke Room at the hospital. CEEG The Chowan/Edenton Environmen tal Group (CEEG) is pleased to present a program by Terry Hariston, Environ mental Manager of NUCOR Steel, Hert ford County NUCOR is the major recy cler of steel as well as the largest steel producer in the United States. The local plant in Cofield manufactures plate steel from recycled materials and is a major economic force in the region. Following the presentation, the CEEG will have its annual meeting. Saturday UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS MEET The Unitarian Universalist fellowship of the Albemarle will hold a service on Jan. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Nothin’ Fancy Cafe on North Broad Street in Edenton. The topic, to be presented by Skip Shel ton, is “The Theory of Evolution to Amer ica: It’s Place in Our Future.” This inter active, accepting religious community welcomes everyone. Please come. CHITTLIN COOKS The Mid-County Ruritan Club in Roper will hold Chittlin Cooks today, as well as Feb. 16 and March 16 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. We offer eat in, take out and chit tlins by the pound. We are located off Pea Ridge Road-near the Albemarle Sound Bridge in Washington County. There are signs to direct you to the Ruritan building on Sam Allen Road. CEREMONY A ceremony celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr will be held at Swain Auditorium in Edenton at noon. Keynote speaker will be Edenton native Dr. Roger A. Hathaway, who heads the Office of Education at the NASA Lang ley Research Center in Hampton, Va. Spe cial music will be provided by saxophon ist Rick Elliott of Suffolk, Va. Holmes High School will hold a Nixon’s BBQ/Chicken Plate Sale from 11 a.m. un til 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the Boy Scout Hut adjacent to the high school. Cost is only $8 per plate. The presentation will explore house hold furniture made and used in or near Edenton and a discussion on silver used during the 18th and 19th centuries.
