Edenton boys hoops claim two wins last week ' Aces Roundup By JEFFREY J. Moore led the scor ing attack with 11 points. Holley Edenton (11-1, 3-2) head coach Andy Downing was happy with both wins. “That was a big plus for us,” Downing said. “It enabled us to kind of stay near the top of the conference. With that one loss, we’ve just got to stay close to the top for the championship at the end. We are still playing pretty good defense. We are doing a bet ter job on the boards. We’ve got to make a few more free throws.” The Aces host Bertie Friday “They are pretty tough, ” Down ing said. “They are going to be quick and push it up and down the floor. We need to make sure we take care of the basketball and play disciplined. We've just got to keep our focus and keep playing. You take it one game at a time. There are no easy ones in this conference.” GIRLS BASKETBALL The Lady Aces had a mixed week. Edenton ran into unde feated Pasquotank last Tuesday and fell 58-43. “We didn’t shoot our free throws well. We were ll-for-23 from the free throw line and that decided the game,” said head coach David Peeler. Edenton rebounded last Fri day with a 59-49 win over First Flight. Zikia Leary led the Aces with 21 points and Hadiya Bem bry added 16 points. The Lady Aces never trailed in the game and used a fourth quarter press to put the contest away ' “We stayed with the press and got a little more active rebound ing. We outscored First Flight 21 15 in the fourth quarter,” Peeler said. “We still have not put four quarters of basketball together, but we did a lot of things right that we had not done in our last coupe of games.” Edenton (8-3, 2-2) hosts Bertie on Friday WRESTLING Although the Edenton wres tling team’s numbers continue to dwindle, the team had several highlights this week.
